ok everyone is saying that myltithreading will make everything easier, but does anyone acually know how it will work?

will it work like dwarf fortress? (get a squad leader then give him men to arm and train then just asign the squad a partol to be done with them)

or will it be diffrent

No, Multithreading affects the processing of the game, so its whats going on in the background rather than the actual game. Its like having multiple lines of people unloading a truck, rather than just one line taking everything which makes everything goes slower.

Multi threading it just a performance thing. It means that each core on your processor will be grinding the calculations meaning you can have more going on at once. More soldiers, more civilians, more advanced function and such.

yeah but when we get groups how... do we have to single every person out or do we just click on the squad leader and the whole squad will come up (this will be easier if 4 or squads are in 1 battle)

Tell everyone to bodyguard your leader and just control him.

They would be grouped, you just assign each separate soldier to bodyguard whoever you want to be the squad captain, and then just control the captain... I'm not sure what else you mean.

Well, I'm sure we'll cross that bridge once we come to it. And by we I mean Chris, because surely he would understand that ordering around 100 unique soldiers would become confusing.

Make your first 3 guys the squad leaders, then you have 1, 2 and 3 as leaders.

Or don't worry and just make them charge a-la Starcraft style.

Or wait until chris gets the system working and we can finally check it out. There is no point dreaming about how frustrating it is to control 40 guys when we can't even do it yet. The current system is fine for the current state of the game.

There will be classes that you design yourself. Basically pre-defined equipment setups. So you can tell these 5 guys they are "scout" class and they will go to your stores and gear up with light armour and a small blade, all by themselves. If its not in the stores they will place an order with your resident blacksmith.
They will also be grouped into semi-permanent squads.

Its basically going to be like in a 4X strategy game, where you design a type of spaceship then build loads of them.

So we can customize the loadouts of our forces?

Sweet.

like the strategy gamer Warzone 2100? you deisgned tanks and build numerous amounts. also could build commanders (or whatever they were called) assigned tanks to each one and just then you controlled the commander only. the units did what you told the commander to do.

sounds like an awesome idea btw... however i must ask, how much micro management will there be? i would think too much would make the game too difficult to control and turn people off. just asking. :?:

awesome idea chris, that will be a lot easier to remember than how each person indivually is equipped, and the black smith sound like a great idea as well, i thought we might jsut have to get shipments from places or something but that might be cheaper

question.

is the blacksmith a character we get to train? in our own town? hire a guy from the bar and tell him to go become a blacksmith. at first he makes little more than rusty katanas, but after time he is churning out superior katanas and armor and hacker style weapons.

:) it is our town, so surely he is controlable.

i think it would be a possibilty since there will be trades for you squads so that they don't have to battle all the time, thought mabey commisioning a blacksmith could cost a lot but he would already have good skills in the craft and be faster to help you in a time of war where you would need a lot of weapons fast.

Maybe we could assign Multiple inhabitants or soldiers to certain tasks?
