How do you do research

Hello, I just have a simple question. How do you do research? I have clicked on them and they say so many hours but that never changes. Thank you for your responses.

You need to build a bench reseach inside a building which belongs to you and then place someone in it, only then the technologies you choosen will start to be researched.
