Just simple suggestion that I couldn't find via the search.
When you receive huge swing from a heavy weapon from much stronger enemy than you, you should drop your weapon, even though you blocked it. Of course that is not something that should happen every time but sometimes, and more often if you are much weaker than enemy. Same should happen to NPCs too.
When that happens, weapon falls to ground and it needs to be picked up. Later on, I think it would be good if they would pick them up by themselves. So player doesn't need to keep watch all the time.
This could be one reason more to choose heavy and slow weapons instead of light and quick.
Also, every time you get hit on the wielding arm (usually right) you should drop your weapon. It's pretty hard to hold weapon when someone is tearing your hand apart. Also, if your arm gets disabled, you should drop your weapon.
Sorry for my English, reading this horrible writing makes my eyes bleed.

How about making it simpler. Put the stagger effect where heavy attack have a certain % (depending on the weapon/attack skill in oppose to the defender weapon/defend skills) to cause the defender to stagger a few steps back missing an attack turn. Stronger heavy attack would cause the defender to fall on the ground or worse sent flying...hohoho this just reminded me of Sauron in combat.
I think an injured arm causing weapon to be unuseable is good enough in it's implementation in addition (correct me if I'm wrong) that someone mention that weapon durability would be implemented would make heavy attack a useful method to disarm an opponent and more reason not to blindly attack a heavily armed enemy.
