Playing a lot of this game I've realized that there are a few things that could really help smooth the game out and make things run much easier.

1. Storage System

Thoughts -There already is a great system where if there is a designated storage box/unit for an item, the characters will automatically drop them in that unit. Amazing idea! But what about where there is no designated unit for items? Fabrics for example. There is no actual unit that gets automatically stored into except the newly added advanced blacksmithing table which still only holds 10. (there is even a glitch where if that's full, the character will go to an iron filled box and just pick up and drop off the iron in an infinite loop.

Idea- So what if we were able to Label buildings, and create storage chests to be connected to the building. If this chest is designated to let's say a building called 'Cooking Warehouse' where I have a stove and rum distillery installed, then when the stove/distillery's output is full, the characters will then drop the stuff into the chest. Maybe even something for the store counters as well to help keep them stocked.

2. Automated Mining Improvement

Thoughts- After advancing far enough into the automated mining systems (for example the stone processor) I found that Stone Processor IV was far superior than Stone Processor V despite that V was automated. Not because of the number of workers but mainly the buildings materials. When the output was full on IV, the 1 worker would drop it in a storage unit. On V, there is no one to do that so it gets jammed. Or I have to sit a guy on it to basically act the same as IV.

Idea 1 (more like a quickfix but still has it's issues)- Increase the limit of building materials that the Stone Processor V can hold. That way it keeps chugging along and only when you need the building materials does your characters grab them. Although it would only hold so much still vs having a lot of storage.

Idea 2 (more solid and fixes all automation)- Create a building where the soul purpose of it is to add workers to it (i'd say a limit of 2-3) where the workers inside watch for full outputs and grabs the materials only to bring it to the next step of the process. Such as stone to stone proccessor, building materials to storage. The building covers a circular range of buildings where anything in it's area is what they watch for so they can transfer the goods.

I came up with another idea a bit ago, similar to your last one.
Maybe characters could be assigned to roles (ex. "Move stuff around."). I came up with it when I realized it was faster for me to select a guy with a trader's backpack, and from there shuffle materials from the wells/flour storages into my stoves than for the workers to be on autopilot. I thought, if I could just have one minion that would keep everything full...

So basically, a character is assigned to one (or more) machines, and instructed to fill them with, or empty them of, materials.

I like the idea of the warehouse, having a large building with wide doors, and the ability to have several workers there, that will empty the bins, and fill hoppers. It would really add a real sense of industry to a city.

I like those ideas. Maybe even have bandits who could even come in to steal stuff eventually. That would be neat, but definitely something is needed with the automated mining. It's not really automated with all the maintaining I now have to do :(

Along with what there say witch are great points, ore processor and the stone mine need to have automated upgrades too, that way workers could switch over from having to mine it, to just moving it to storage, I can't get enough men in a group now to work all my mines, and move stuff around, with out scanning the whole area looking out for attacks, really need wall and, later men with climbing skill to attack when my me are really ready. :P

Sorry, but I have to do this.

So let me get this straight: you want walls to keep your miners from being attacked from multiple sides or when you don't expect it. You also want the enemy to be able to climb over walls, so they can attack your miners from multiple sides or when you don't expect it.

I don't even...

Oh also there's a problem with having them automatically start upgrading. What happens if you don't have enough building materials to complete the upgrade once you finish the research for the next mine level? You'd have to go out and buy more just so you can get back to mining.

I talking about having bandits and starving people attacking all the time, It would only be later game enemies that could climb not the rift-raft that always attacking you, also if your to stupid to check on your building materials before you upgrade then should you really be playing this game, it doesn't take a genius to know not to upgrade something that produces the very thing you need to upgrade it without checking your supply
