There should be ruins I mean kenshi is supposed to be post apacolyptic right? So maybe cris could add in some old ruins of the pre Armageddon of a civilization before kenshi maybe create a story of what came before and what happened add little tidbits in like an ancient journal of a little girl a manual for some frogotten technology who knows

Possible places to draw inspiration for the pre apocalyptic civie
Roman style after Rome came the dark ages after all
The rebirth period can't spell the fancy name
Greek they were powerful
Egyptians same as Greeks
Medieval Arabs They were not in the dark ages then
Industrial revolution great technologies were born
Modern many after Armageddon take place after the modern day
And many eastern cultures though out time
Mesopotamians they had one of the most advanced cultures of the time
Sumerians one of the first great civilizations
It maybe combine them all and create some whacked out civilization
Or use them all separately in the same world but in different areas

Ideas for the possible cause of Armageddon
Nuke
Plague
Famine
Giant drought
War
Sun like a giant solar flare or something
Man made plague
There are more to be sure

I've always liked being able to find the backstory of the game and all sorts of little tidbits of that history and kenshi could have a very interesting history

Kenshi has no setting yet, so saying that, the post apocalypti setting is just a fan suposition, so is not safe to plan features based on certain sides we don t know such as that one, tho ruins had been mention before as requests, and i guess they might be somewhat planned for the feature part of the dangerous zones to explore (my guess).

I'm not sure where the post Armageddon came from I thought I saw Chris say it but I really can remember
But if this is put in I'd really want to be able to read little bits of the the past like a journal of a little girl while Armageddon is happening and such cause things like that would add so much life to the game in so many ways

Like hbrown said it has no setting, i dont like the idea of manuals myself nor roman inspired stuff at all you know what i mean? I would rather kenshi be its self rather than being inspired by a time period like romans or samurais as that i think could change the feel in a way i think this is more in beed of features rather than lore and setting :-P

Have you played total war rome yet i feel you would love it :-)

The word you were looking for was "renaissance". Chris actually never said the game was post apocalyptic. In fact, what he said was that the game might even take place on an entirely different planet, with its own unique cultures and technological progression order.

At the very least, it has been confirmed to not take place in Japan.

I just couldn't spell it and even if it isn't post apocalyptic I'd still like to have the bits and pieces of history little stories of of people that came before because I doubt that this is the first generation of the humans and tribals simply because of the tech that is around

For gods sake don't quote me on this but...

If memory serves correctly Chris was thinking of not having any 'official' setting at all. He wants you to imagine the setting for yourself (I could be so horribly wrong it's not even funny, but this is what I seem to recall)

I like the idea of this actually, because everyone's always saying what the setting should be but this way you can make the setting whatever you want. If you want you could say that this is indeed the first generation of humanoids and the tech simply came from past species that are now long extinct.

Or you could say that it was a nuclear apocalypse that occurred years ago. Or aliens invaded and humans took steps back in technology and knowledge in general. Or you can say the humans in the game are from a crashed colony ship (or fleet) that set out to spread humanity among the stars but lost their way due to system malfunctions and crashed on a strange planet. That could of been generations ago and all the tech you have is what people managed to find in old books written in a language long forgotten by the bulk of people or what was passed from generation to generation. (easy to tell which is my favorite, eh? :P)

But ruins are a neat idea, perhaps not of alien ships or anything like that but old cities that were laid to waste centuries ago through war or disease or famine.

I think I'd prefer a world that was colonized after the initial colony ship crashed on it, leaving the player to find ruins of the old ships and of potentially alien civilizations or ships that had been there before. Like my "Nekuman" back story, but with the added feature of aliens having once been there.

A I really thing aliens/spaceships would ruin the games style

B I'd like there to be a history of this world. Doesn't matter what setting just a history. Roman and the other things were ideas to draw inspiration from not to base it off folkie roman collums under a barbarian roof or something the piont of this post is that I'd like it if Chris added some history to the game of some kind little tidbits that the player can look for if he so chooses and maybe a whole story revolving around the ruins like if it is post Armageddon what happened if war why

Chris has stated there will be no real background, so people would make one up for themselves. Also it is most definitely NOT post-apocalypse. Desert isn't going to be the while game, you know.

As I understand it, there's going to be various biomes eventually? Maybe one could be a crazy huge "ruins" biome. A couple miles of desert-choked crumbling wall outlines of buildings. Put the Cannibals in it or something.

I'd rather just have done dead cities that are crumbling

I had a really weird bug happen to me today, I made a new game, then I loaded the game with my massive sprawling city, then loaded my new game.

I was walking past the site my city had been with my new character... and found it...

It wasn't owned by me but I could use stuff and all the stuff I had in containers were there, some the city was missing as if it had been chopped off with a knife, but was awesome find since I had started off on the "Rock Bottom" difficulty and had no gear.

This brings me to my suggestion. I think it would be cool if the game could load ruined versions of previously built cities in other games when you make a new game, perhaps infested with bandits, etc with the machinery all rusted solid and useless but a few loot boxes intact.

I've played sandbox MMOs for a long time, and Wurm Online being among them, I think one of the most interesting aspects of those game is the history you build over. It would make this game absolutely unforgettable if it was added and would fit right in with the atmosphere.

I don't know how the weather will affect ruins. In the future, from what i understand, weather will damage buildings.

I too, have had buildings from other saves carry over. This is true for the great mcnasty wall between brink and traders edge.

However, when nasty weather is implemented, and if no one is around to repair it, then it will most likely crumble into dust.

But i must admit it can be a very awesome exploit.

Most likely will just affect owned buildings, yours and from factions, ambient buildings such as ruins would be unaffected or else who would repair them? would be then useless to place them as they would disappear due to weather, or that could be a good thing, and make weather affect them, and make them disappear after X time, tho something should replace to not be "in vain".

Soldier- I found a ruin sir, i couldn´t go in as i was alone, but seem to have gold!!
King- Aaa, let us organize a party and explore this ruins.
