(I have read and I agree with all the Forum and sub-forum rules, I have... perused the sections, but I have a condition which severely makes me forget them after a while, known as lazyness, please, If I do anything against it, don't take it to heart, and correct me, and I shall improve it by the best of my abilities)
I've bought Kenshi recently, and I didn't know about the experimental version, way better than the playable version, but it's not without it's due cost, of course.
I'm testing housing in cities after miserably failing at building outposts, way too many bandit parties, wildlife, or the lack of building walls to protect my peons
One of the first bugs I have seen recently it's the dismantling function on already furnished houses: I think that everyone that's familiar with the game might recognize the UI designs, yes, this is the interior of a small shack, fully furnished to my
This Shack is actually in Brink, I like this city better, idk.
The funiture can't be broken or recyclied, I have a very good computer, and I can handle games like rome 2 total war at ultra/high capacities, so running Kenshi ins't a problem, but in certain cities, the game seem to crash randomly, I assume it's the npc or the bandit parties roaming towards cities and playing dummy with the locals.
Thoughts:
The cities by the way.. are so unclean, how could they survive? it's not like everyone dines and drinks all their cats at the local Saloons, I've seen fisher and it had personality, a farm-town, I know it's earlier to pretend, but what if all towns had a personality? like Brink being a Industrial city, developing technologies, or Catan being a city of sin, full of Gambling/Brothels, run by local criminal authorities, which would also bring a very interesting feature of becoming a crimelord, extorting shops, creating rackets that can be supplied with narcotics, running Assassin's guilds and have npcs come in and ask favors and create contracts, a sort of Player Reputation system.
Ideas on the Robotics skill;
Also, when robotics is on the way, how about adding Automatas, Drones, Battledroids? uncontrollable squad members you can give commands, like using turrets, mining, murdering innocents, manufacturing indefinitely your needs, as you gather your party members and do whatever you desire?
Drones could be used for trading, basic robotics, it could be expanded to have other functions, property-alarm, faster than leg it all the way from catan to fort simion, tracking drones could be used to find criminals and pinpoint on the map the ones with high bounty, adjustable.
Cargobots could carry players inventory, have a nice painting, but pretty basic robot.
Automatas could be your do-it-all humanoid robot, ordered to mine, farm, operate machinery and craft bulks on demand, and also look nice with paints and custom parts and functions, commanded to repair other robots, repair the base
Obviously the Battledroids could be used for combat, commanded to operate turrets, to patrol properties and perimeters on Player cities/fortresses, killer droids told to hunt criminals with bounties and kill assassination contracts.
All robots could be run by batteries and mantained by parts, upgraded by components and function chips, when destroyed, engineers could strip their parts to make then unable to be repaired by npcs, making them less of a problem in case you go against battledroids, drones could be operated by relay antennas built at cities or houses to allow a certain distance to be travelled without running out of battery and allow movement tracking of the unit, npcs could also take advantage of this, but the cost of robots, mantainance could be considerably high, so as long you can mantain them, you're set, this could bring up new enemy bands of malfuctioning automatas, frenzied battledroids, zapper drones
Thank you for reading this wall text, I'm currently playing the game to the best of my abilities.
It would also seem the the npc pathfinding is bugged, some squadmembers and npcs can't go above structures, such as raised properties, tried to construct a forge above a raised place in Brink, and npcs/squadmates couldn't go up, nor use the ladders.
Gaming strategy,
Always build your character before considering building a home outside a city, I find it is easier to get enough credits to buy a house inside a well protected town, you'll have access to a bed, and sometimes store space, you CAN USE all of it, and you should, while at it, peruse the local material/tool shop and build yourself a tech bench and have someone research the technologies, while you scavenge battlefields to get resources, and build anything your household can handle, from dummies, lockpicking chests, forges, more beds, you can live in towns, just make sure you have enough money, move around the globe, prospecting, seeking a place where you can build a specialized home, a farm-state, where you can supply entires homes with soar bread, or the local pubs with rum-remedy for drunks, it's a hell and you surely could use a drink, or, you could be a mine-owner, weaponsmith and have all your peons, slaves, robots and companions help you thrive in the desert, I'm sure a lot will change, most certainly, but you'd be well set if you master the game before owning any land outside a safe well manned wall, the criminal elements are unforgiving, and would rather kill you, than steal your properties, or extort you, or rob your cargo, they hate you guts and would kill you, and if you managed to survive and get up, they will come back and beat the alive out of your health.
Thank you for your time and effort to read this wall of madness, I truly appreciate that.
