I think it might also be nice to have stairs, roads, bridges and the like, which should get prioritised by AI. It will allow for some nice verticality in your settlements which I feel is lacking now. Moreover it will allow you to structure the paths AI takes in your settlements (or around them)

Recently bought Kenshi on steam after it sat in my wishlist for ages.
