Holy Nation sent an attack (Wrath of God) to my outpost, defeated it. I've had the same no auto-eating problem once and only temporarily. Workaround I read in another post was to load a save, which worked for me. I saved a file with the issue, and some combination of restarting the game and reloading the save fixed the issue. Haven't had it again.
