Questions on Modding Kenshi's Combat: How to add Damage Reduction to Armour?

I was considering making a combat mod for Kenshi, and I'm having trouble finding tutorials on the subject. Wanted to add static damage-reduction numbers to armour, so that an example piece might block 14 blunt and 21 cut. Didn't see a way of doing this. If I could work out how to do that, I could pr...

Always happy to read about your progress, Iron. Keep chipping away at your own pace. You're making good progress.

Re: My Own Game!

One check per second ought to still be a fairly reasonable simulation, I assume? I don't expect anything to be thrown off with checks that often, at least.

Re: Real Combat

Pirates are thieves, overglorified bandits. Very true. Their skills come from knowing the best way to get a ships cargo and goods, not duking it out man to man. Basically true. Famous pirates' skills revolve around getting other ships and the ships' cargo. To do that, they need to be excellent sail...

Re: My Own Game!

Sounds like a good idea. Stealth is hard to do in first person, but it does have a lot of potential.

Anyway, please let us look at your flow chart when you feel it is presentable. I might be able to show it to a surgeon I know of who could possibly improve upon it for you.

Re: Real Combat

Whoa, that's a lot of posts. Time for some fun. What would happen If someone tripped the Medieval knight and the knight fell on their back? Their armor was heavy, so turtle effect? Haven't seen armour aerobics? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm11yAXeegg They all decide something is not right and thr...

Re: Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

You seem to be mixed up. 60KG would be about 132.7 pounds. A triple digit weight weapon? Even at 60 pounds, it is ridiculously heavy. Heavier than most sledgehammers, which make poor weapons (fine if you hit--but good luck hitting). I see the mention of the monks being an unarmed faction... can't fi...

Re: Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

Sleep is for people with comfortable beds.

Haven't heard of a battle axe heavier than eight pounds. Most sledgehammers don't get to 60 pounds.

Since we're still in early stages, where there aren't any skill caps and the like, Chris might be intending to adjust these numbers later.

Re: Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

Where did he say this? I don't recall there being a lot of info on what was planned for unarmed. Warrior monks (the kind you would see in a bleak setting where they need to survive) didn't favour unarmed combat. Some of them were the most feared warriors of their countries, too--using spears and swo...

Re: Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

I would think a more 'Dungeons and Dragons: Monk' approach would be better. Things like stuns, faster attacks, dodging and defense increase faster while unarmed, heck...maybe even mystical energy attacks could work too. .......Please, no. Have mercy. Have yet to see a game that did, "unarmed i...

Would be interested to see your polished version of the flow-graph, if it is OK with you. Have a friend who might also be interested--though they aren't of the medical profession.

Re: Real Combat

Their are probably too many factors to that to give a proper answer. It certainly would've been helpful to Germany that the Stalingrad fiasco never happened--but then if the Soviets manage a successful offensive which surprises the Germans at a critical moment, it may've been even worse for them. Yo...

Re: Hoping for a job

Not a dev or the like, but I doubt you'll get a job with a one sentence post like that. You'd need to talk about your experience and supply some examples of your work (assuming they even want more people). Not sure myself whether you posted this as a joke (AKA: trolling).

Re: Real Combat

The pirate is the easiest to kill, so it makes sense he would die first if he stayed around at all. Earlier in the thread, I talked about the shortcomings of pistols and why it gives the pirate little advantage. Out of the warriors, only the Spartan would be unable to recognize a powder weapon. So s...

Re: Real Combat

Wow, a full plate Knight is really the apex of martial examples. With full plate and a warhammer, he pretty much outclasses everything. They were likely the best martialy trained warriors in all history, they were exposed to almost every weapon and weapon combination, and mastered dozens. They were...

Re: Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

There are a number of forging techniques to get good quality metal. Swords can cause harm without cutting against certain armours--just that you need to aim at weak points of the body like the spine if you want it to matter much. You don't need good kinetic energy for trauma to certain areas to be e...

Re: Martial Arts skill. Sword vs hand?

I'd say just as the blade is returned to the ready position, or just before the attack, for a disarming animation.

This is a forgone conclusion, but I'll mention again that the unarmed person is at a great disadvantage. The main time to use this would be A) Desperation. or B) Surprise.

Re: Real Combat

A lot of things could happen. An average pirate isn't likely to have friends loyal or dumb enough to risk taking on a fully armoured warrior (they're pirates, not primates). If it's the right kind of pirate town, they might kill anyone who comes through with as much as boots to steal. It is unlikely...
