I just tried replacing the file and i experienced no change however im confused about what you mean when you said rename the files with Cliffs01.dds

Yea I'm on a laptop but is there ever gonna be an actual fix rather then just making it more bearable because I would but this game the instant the ground inst black, i want to play this game so bad and its just hard with all the ground being black.

I have the same problem, i have a geforce 540 too. And it wont let me change the rendering device monitor, the only option is intel hd graphics family. I dont know if this is because i havent bought the game yet but if the terrain wasnt black i would buy it immediately.
