Re: New members say "Hi"
Also, Hi to all the new people. I'd sort of forgotten about this thread for a while (since we all know as soon as something becomes a sticky it becomes invisible to about 95% of the forum-goers.) Easily fixed with the "View New Posts" link on the forum index page. :D http://www.lofigames....

Re: Bot problem
I do note that since you have returned, leet, that the spambots have been keeping their distance. Coincidence, or......? Nah, there was another just last night. Reported all the new topics and PM'd Toaster. I think it helps when a member alerts a mod personally. The trash is taken out much more eff...

Re: Kenshi is in the IGM indie game of the year awards.
I'd be glad to vote for it, except for one major point: Chris has stated two years as the estimated time to launch the game. That firmly puts it in 2014. Granted - I'm all about publicity, but I wouldn't want to be dishonest and get Kenshi BAD publicity by helping advertise a 2013 launch when there ...

Re: Bot problem
Captcha improvements really do help. I don't recall when I activated my account, but is there an e-mail challenge/response system in place too? And, does it allow free email providers like hotmail? Denying a new account when the holder attempts to use open email systems like that can also help (thou...

Re: Saturday, 10 November 2012 16:08 Update, "Plans"
[...] Good example - the Elder Scrolls series. Oblivion was slightly larger than Morrowind, but to keep the simplistic console crowd happy, they kept Skyrim's world size the same.[...] TES is maybe not the best example for your point, since Daggerfall (TES 2) was the largest TES world of all the it...

Re: Saturday, 10 November 2012 16:08 Update, "Plans"
About the plans. I'm sorry to hear about world size ending up smaller. One of the greatest things in almost any game I have played has been the wandering and adventuring to new places. As long as there are places I haven't been before the game is still interesting. Even if games had a main story an...

That must be the "Rest in Peace" faction feature.

Re: Bot problem
Edit: I would love to take the time to thank Blxz for the PM about the bots, without his PM I would've missed the chance to spread fear and destruction amongst the spamming community. Really?? I check out the New Posts link on the forum index page every time I visit the site. I could barely see any...

I'd be glad to test it, but I'm in a 6870x2 Crossfire setup, so might not be the best candidate.

Can't live the easy life forever, generation after generation. Every country will eventually have to pay it's dues, or go to war to absolve them. Greece is no different than any other country in that respect.

Re: 0.32 Crashes and Bugs
Given that the game is in an Alpha state, going back doesn't help Chris in the least since you run the risk of reporting bugs he may already have fixed, or bugs that settled themselves due to other changes to the engine. Chris is producing updates fairly regularly now, so chances are he can get new ...

Challenges of being a lone developer
Read this article recently on PC Gamer, made me think of what Chris is attempting to do with Kenshi. Given that Kenshi's been in development longer, and has a long way to go yet.. it actually makes me rather nervous for both the game and Chris. http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/11/12/lone-survivor-develop...
Re: 64-bit?
I can verify that Kenshi does crash when going over 2 GB. However, it does vary between regular crashes, Super Crash!es, and freezes. Active memory management for 32-bit apps can be a big headache. Caching, purging, and generally moving assets in/out of memory is a big deal. Think of the Elder Scro...

Re: Requested Feature : Combat Targeting
Per-person reputation would work well. But it would have to be for the player only, otherwise the data storage would be massive (population x population). I'd also need some method of propagation to spread things around. I'd think having this on the player's starting (primary) character would be su...
Re: 64-bit?
Not sure what you mean. The code should be able to handle up to 4GB without alteration, right? Thats the 32-bit limit. >4GB would require a 64-bit conversion of all the code. 2GB was just an artificial limit imposed by 32bit windows, as far as i know. A quick primer for virtual addressing in Window...

Re: Alternate Views
First-person view in a squad-based game? Probably not, as it would serve little purpose. You can't control a single character's attacks or movement like that, so it wouldn't blend well with the game's design. If you could, sure (like Dungeon Keeper 2), though I don't see that making it into the prim...
Re: 64-bit?
That unlocker program interested me. I looked into it, I think I now have Kenshi compiled to use up to 4GB. Actually Chris, if memory serves, that exe header switch only enables the game to take advantage of >2gb memory addressing. The code itself has to be designed (told) that it can use up to tha...
