This has been discussed in depth previously, and may well be a possibility in the future, especially once AI factions can carry out sieges and remain at war with one another. Sounds awesome. Will we see any aspect of 'persistent world' games in this game's final incarnation?
It would be fun to build a town, and then revisit it in a different incarnation.

For ranged combat, I have to disagree. Assuming that todays traditional yumi archers use the same techniques as the samurai, they might have a disadvantage when it came to facing a medieval european or eastern asian archer.
