Re: Poll: Which feature of the 4/05 post do you want next?

I voted for the larger map, landscape and biomes option. In truth, it's because I haven't gotten that deep into the game yet, so the aesthetic is what's influencing me the most so far. There's other reasons too: While there is nothing wrong with the desert, it feels too... empty to me. Different are...

Re: a bad upcoming feature?

Well, there's FullMetal Alchemist... Yes, the anime is based around the concept of alchemy, equivilant exchange, etc.,etc. But the automail limb replacements are not, as far as I know, alchemy based. Instead, I think the concept behind them is that the nerves which were connected to the now severed ...

Re: Will I Ever Run out of Bandits?

I'd like to think you can run out of bandits. Here's one of the reasons why: I've never played Dead Rising to completion, but there is an achievement for killing 53,594 zombies, which was basically the population of the town. Now, as far as I know, zombies were still numerous afterwards. It wasn't a...

Re: Military Weapons - Spears and other Polearms

They're not necessarily useless in close quarter combat. If a person is exceptionally skilled, they can wield a spear the same way they wield a bo staff, which can be just as devastating in close-quarter combat to get thwacked in the head by one of those staffs. Ah, the key word there is "skil...

Re: Military Weapons - Spears and other Polearms

Well, the entire point of spears is that they work great when your opponent is far away. If the opponent gets past the spearhead, the spear wielder is likely to find it shoved where the sun doesn't shine. So for the initial charge, the spear/polearm would work wonderfully, but then swords will have ...

Re: Setting

I imagine we'll have a better picture of the setting once the map expansion update comes in. Until then, I guess we just have to assume that they're very proficient at detecting underground water sources. Maybe it's not about what the deserts have, but rather what they don't have. I know animals ar...

Re: Setting

I think it is a world other than earth, or if it isn't, then it is an alternative timeline, where guns never really took off. Was it because of a strict honour code? Or perhaps gunpowder was never plentiful enough to make it even initially viable? I'd like to think it's the second one for now: Gunpo...

Re: Deafining silence

I haven't actually listened to anything while playing yet. I'll probably have a Rooster-teeth let's play running in the background. They're entertaining enough. I guess so far I've been just trying to figure out what to do, how to do it, and why my new minion has tried to pick a fight with a group o...

Re: Military Weapons - Spears and other Polearms

I'd recommend the Naginata, as opposed to a spear. Considering the primary weapon in the game is a Katana, a Japanese sword, it would fit better. The Naginata is a pole arm with a difference: instead of a spearhead, it has a long curved blade. This way, it can be used both to stab and slice, potenti...

Re: Navigation

I agree that landmarks are a better idea than roads. Considering the heavy bandit activity, going through the same route repeatedly would be asking for trouble. Instead, knowing that the route between Clownsteady and Catan is littered with large rocks, while the route between Clownsteady and Brink h...

Re: Animals of labor

In "game overview", there is a mention of predators: Blood loss means you can pass out, and the blood will attract predators. Since (as far as I know) humans don't have a strong enough sense of smell to be able to track a scent of blood, I'd assume things like wild dogs or something might ...

Firstly, I bought the game yesterday on Steam, and am enjoying it a lot so far. I started in Clownsteady, and my attempts to cross the desert so far have been cut short by stopping to ask for directions from some bandits, who quickly gave me directions to hell. I'd like to ask: Has there been any th...
