As for the gate opening, it's highly infuriating but it comes down to the pathing system which is still being worked on(and will get patched next patch) So just look who it is and either try refreshing the nav mesh(CTRL+SHIFT+F11) or try rebuilding whatever it is they're working on. Does the (SLAVE) tag ever get removed from a squad mate once they've been "freed"? Even with having 0% Looks Like a Slave it doesn't seem to go away.
