I had the same thing happen to me, but with the Stone refiner machinery.

Looked into the game data, it does nothing. Unfortunately in my game I did click on it because I had the money and hoped something exciting would happen... lol I tried it out too, but I had saved just before, so it was easy to reload it. I've messed up too many times not to save before investigatin...
