Re: Custom new world
For the colour maps, if you want to edit those. Colormap 3.2 and colormap 2.3 are going to be your friends. you can line those 2 images on top of the fullmap.til and this will give you a really good grid set up. Colormap 3.2 is colum 3, row 2 and similar fo colormap 2.3, in fact they are diaganally ...

Re: Custom new world
So I made a test map, with some mountain/islands. They are all the exact same mountain, but different XY scales... all of them are the same height. (which makes the smallest ones on the map look like strange ethereal Magic the Gathering Islands. ) So, a good HSV value for land right up against the o...

Re: Custom new world
DOH! (imagine a "DOH!" that can be heard on the other side of the planet in, like, Sweden.) Yes, the problem with the banding was my 17 year old copy of Photoshop 7.0 (in some countries my photoshop is above the age of consent... I love my photoshop that much) HAHHA, actually it feels good...

Re: Custom new world
For the life of me, I can't seem to solve that banding issue. I've done every test that I can think of, and I come to 2 conclusions. 1, there's some sort of imbedded graphics info in the default .tif file that I just dont understand, OR, 2, There's a glitch in my photoshop, which I know is glitchy b...

Re: Custom new world
Or it could be the brightness and contrast of the fullmap image... I've noticed some subtle "banding" in the vanilla map, so maybe it's not a photoshop issue at all. Also, becasuse it's good to take a break, I'm taking 2 days off from modding the map. I'm looking into the Biomes, very very...

Re: Custom new world
and I'm pretty sure that I've discovered the cause of the banding. When I load up the vanilla map and convert that from 16bit to 8bit per channel so that I can modify it.... photoshop adds a bunch of very subtle artfacting... so solution, dont build off of the vanilla map and start from scratch with...

Re: Custom new world
Its comming along nicely, but I'm getting some serious banding issues. I THINK it's because my contrast is too high in my fullmap.tif file. It seems that if I lower the contrast the bands go from vertical walls to angled walls, that at least the squads can navigate. so, if anyone else is getting a w...

Re: Custom new world
but, I think it looks pretty good http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662721569 the crazy thing is, most of the world isn't actually broken by these changes. I mean, it's as playable as it was on the vanilla map. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662721578 and t...

Re: Custom new world
Ok, so I did some work, and managed to get a new (kinda) working terrain in the game.. I've checked out about 3% of the total area, but it's a work in progress. Next step is to see about changing the textures to look more, I dont know, artic or something. I'm kinda proud of the mountains, they are w...

Re: Custom new world
Well my first attempts at modifying that greyscale topology tiff map went well. If I changed too much, I would get a crash, no idea why. If changed anything at all, it would mess up buildings, trees, etc. so I deleted all that stuff from my mod file... (it's nice all the vanilla stuff I deleted in t...

Custom new world
I enjoy making worlds. And I've made some progress on modifying the game map. I'll share what I've discovered so far. The topology of the world seems to come from a large 16 bit .tiff file in the land/data, it's called "fullmap" or something like that. There's alot of image files that tie ...
