perhaps a menu to optionally set up automation? Workers/slaves/minions within the building are listed under the building menu, along with any available actions and materials.
Default menu is disabled = micro management.
Building menu is activated via checkbox = macro management/automated assignments based on pre-sets.
My guess would be something that is micro by default, but with an option for pre-sets that are unique to the building/ of entire type.
How about instead of a "menu enable button" the player would need to assign a worker the "management" position, then the pre-set menu becomes available.

Yeah, and more specifically, one of those manager dudes should have to come from your team. Some sort of leadership or manegerial skill of some sort. I can't remember what skills are available but I am sure one of them could be tailored for the job. Then how efficiently they run the business is based on how good their skill is.
