That's a new one on me, any idea what you were doing that may have resulted in this? How far along are you in the game, is a restart a viable option? Before you do you should zip up your save folder and start a thread in the bug reports so you can upload it. I haven't heard of anyone encountering this before, so I imagine Chris may want to take a look to see what caused it.

I have had this happen a few times. Pretty annoying. there are apparently a couple ways to solve it from what I have read online, though I have only had success with one method.

First, you need to sell one item that is higher in "trade value" than your present debt-glitch. I havent made this happen because I got caught at -1650 and -2300 ish... Best thing I had was a 1.2 kitana that would sell for $1400

Your other option is to install a program called "Gamewiz32", which from what I gather is a program made for cheating as much as its made for debugging. This program allows you to do a search of the memory registers and from there you can find the register that contains your money amount. You can edit it live once you have found it. I am at work right now but if someone else hasnt filled you in more by the time I get home I will get some screenshots up as I was able to get it fixed, but wasnt sure whether I was going to break something in the process. Fortunately I didn't.

Gamewiz32.

There seem to be quite a few people who had this happen to them. To fix it you could either try what theunfrailhale suggested - it didn't work for me because the program wanted me to alter the value ingame which was kinda hard at that time

Or you could try the fix here on the forum: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3492

I hope this helps.

Here is the tutorial in all of its MS-Paint/ screenshot glory. Your mileage may vary, but as I understand this program, we are editing RAM registers, not Harddrive data, so until you press "Save" or F5, nothing is permanent. Give it a shot if you like.

this is the link I got Gamewiz from.

++++++++FYI++++++++

if i remember correctly, there was a bunch of advertising programs bundled in this installer, so READ THE INSTALL CAREFULLY, unless you like toolbars and silly homepages. I dont think its "Spyware" per-se, but much like Daemon Tools Lite, they get their funding from bundling browser bars etc. If you carefully navigate the install boxes ( i believe you even hit 'cancel' once, as it asks you if you want some calendar installed) you wont have any issues.

dont come knocking down my door if you hit "Next" as fast as you can and then your browser has 15 toolbars. I am in no way responsible for what you do, whether you proceed with this is up to you. I have had success twice with it resolving my issues with broken-negative money.

Best of luck, and feel free to ask questions if you have any.

Is there something specific that results in your cats becoming a negative amount? Personally I haven't ever encountered that particular issue before and am curious how reproducible it is.

I have just had the same problem. I am -5700, no way to get out of red.

It happened when I transferred a piece of armour of that value from one of my characters to another. I had nicked the armour off an unconscious policeman. Maybe that is where the problem lies?

Actually, I just checked. It was a combination of items that I transferred and equipped. The game seems to have made me pay for the items, as I was something like 8000 in plus.

Well, if you have a full squad you could always pick a fight with the gate guards of a faction you don't mind being hostile toward, slaughter them all and loot their gear... Then go into town and fight the shop guards, they usually have some gear that you can sell for a nice price, and if they don't have anything you can sell for over 5700 you can always loot the weapon and armor shops, there are lots of pieces of high end gear that sell for over 5700... And there is always the above RAM memory editing program that seems to have worked for some people.

Cheers,

was not too worried about this as I saved just before this happened. Just thought I'd describe the circumstances in which it happened. To be honest, until there is more diversity in the AI-Player interaction I am not keen on picking any fights with factions, I might want to be friends with them later. Also, they would SLAUGHTER me and my ragtag bunch of 20. :)

This thread was just posted this Monday ( the 8th ). Chris said he thought he'd have the next patch ready tomorrow at the earliest ( no specific time, just said a week from the 5th ).

I'm guessing this bug would be fixed with a patch after the one mentioned above, assuming the bug isn't too horribly dug in the code.
