Hi guys, I'm relatively new to kenshi and I'm loving it so far and I'm very exited about upcoming content and such. I had a good look at the stats page in-game and witnessed some very cool sounding skills that may be added into the game in the future. I'm interested in how everyone thinks assassination will work in kenshi, as well as other skills that may relate such as climbing and stealth. I think these skills could add a darker side to kenshi which sounds fantastic to me! What are your views on these potential skills and what do you all hope for?

Well, I am guessing it has something to do with sneaking up on someone and then killing them.
Now to do this, your mark has to be in one of two states:
1) Unaware
2) Friendly
(Obviously in MOST cases you would have to rely on a sneak skill to be able to move silently as well as OUT of sight of ANYONE that might notice your actions)
(And in the second case, friendly is pretty much the same as unaware except you wouldn't need to be sneaky at all, just behind them)
So, yeah for this to work you would need a sneak skill too, and the person attempting to pull off the move would need to be behind the victim and un-noticed. Use of the sneak skill has a chance to make them lose sight of you even if you are spotted, but each step based on skill has a chance of coming out of this state.
In the case of friendly, you could just walk behind them without sneak because they assume you are on their side. Although after the strike, it wouldn't work anymore as all of that faction in range would likely agro. However, if they didn't see this happen, it makes sense that they wouldn't all jump in there, thus the sneak skill comes into play.
A thief should have access to train in these skills eventual (IMO):
1. Sneak
2. Hide in Shadows (MAYBE to give a boost to sneak and more useful at night)
3. Pick Pocket (steal off a person)
4. Theft/Steal (Steal from a traders supply) ** although technically you COULD roll 3 and 4 together initially)
4. Lock Pick (which would require picks that might break during use)
5. Poison (THIS would be kind of fun)
Just a few suggestions and ideas as to how it could really be fleshed out. Granted you can always simplify the system and what not, but these mechanics would go well together.

In the year 2065 the amount of cat pics on the internet will eclipse the amount of porn pics.

At the current state of the game i have a hard time seeing it implemented. It would either be overpowered(1hit kill) or almost useless(1 normal hit and then alarm and all aggro on you) in combat. I hope it can be implemented farther down the line but I wouldnt want it to be too stealth-gamey(hide in shadows etc). I would rather want it to be a useful tool to scout, avoid capture etc.
It would also be really cool if you could disguise yourself as enemy soldiers etc, they would probably notice if they came to close and with really bad luck you might be attacked by an enemy of the faction you pretend to be. Maybe you could even provoke war through raiding under false banner.
In the end you would have to have a lot of AI improvments since it would take balance from the game if they didnt also use stealth and also they would have to be able to counter your stealth(guard AI, patrols maybe traps and alarm system).

perhaps assassination will simply be killing targets that are prone. So if a character is already down and nearly dead an assassin could go up to him and finish them off. Of course a high skill would just mean they could make the kill faster. This is of course just one theory. I have noticed that at this point if you get knocked out the enemy kind of just ignores you so was wondering if maybe this wouldn't always be the case.

Maybe it should be used for identifying the target. After all, how do you know who the target is with out a picture? This could mean that other aspects can be implemented to the skill, like identifying weaknesses in walls, skills of opponents, and quality of equipment they are carrying, without engaging in combat. It can also help identify who has a bounty and who doesn't. Maybe incorporate bombs and use this skill combined with engineering to destroy buildings. There are a lot of ways to use this skill without silently killing people. After all, historically ninjas looked like everyday people, until they attacked. So maybe this skill can be used for disguises. I really cant wait to see how they implement it.
Something tells me that Assassination should come into play for when you're running along rooftops (Climbing to get up there, possibly an Acrobatics skill in the future, Stealth to remain hidden from NPCs) and you want to jump off this rooftop to insta-kill some NPC.
