Well much as I hate to get this terrifically derailed post back on the topic of the upcoming art update

If you have played the game you will be familiar with the character customisation, and how you can adjust the body proportions of your character. Well on top of that, there will be an adjustable bump-map that shows the strength and health of characters.
So a character with a Strength stat of 100 will look more like the guy on the left, a newly created character with zero stats will look like the guy in the middle.

How much of that is coming with this patch? Not the female base, we know that for certain. Where is that awesome old scrap metal Samurai armor concept going to be in the game? Will it be assigned to a faction, or player craftable? There's a lot about this patch to be excited about, and hopefully we'll have all the answers to our questions soon.

Those are all things that have been posted on the front page in the last nine months or so, except the Samurai armor which was posted on Desura in December.

He mentioned at one point that he has a large repository of art assets he is waiting to use when he hires someone to make they game look more... "pretty". Though that isnt the priority as of yet, so theres no need to be discouraged.

This update will bring some of those outsourced assets into the game, the real question now is how many that aren't directly related to armors will be added. Will we get the physique bump mapping that scales according to character stats? We'll just have to wait and see.

Actually it's starvation.

Just wanted to leave you with no doubt that it wasn't dehydratation and is actually starvation.

I don't know about anyone else but one thing I am super excited for in this upcoming update is the change to the META game. At the moment now all you have to do to get started is kite bandits to guards and loot the extra armor and weapons and sell them for full price, Not to mention if one of the guards go down you have just scored yourself a set of pretty sweet weapons and armor.

I am psyched that the game play starting out will become a little more unforgiving on looters and maybe make some of the other ways to make profit seem worth our time.

Don't get me wrong I love the game and have poured many hours into it, but I don't see why people are hating on this update so much.

actually its very simple.
they don't see the new armour or updated male character as something worth while. as one keeps saying in the steam forums its just a update adding hair, and no new content. they just don't understand what it actually means to have the new revamped male base.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

It means waiting almost a month for a progress update and then almost another month has passed without any sort of update.

In my opinion I don't care how busy a dev is its not on, take a look at other early access games like castle story, timer and stone and prison architect at least you can count on frequent news on whats going on.

EDIT: No idea if this was a coincidence but there was a progress update after I posted this, so yeah still not as frequent as could be but still the update in whats happening is better than nothing. Hopefully the new dev team can push things out a bit quicker and free up some time for Chris to keep us posted on whats happening. Week to week posts would be cool I really enjoy castle stories weekly updates even if nothing has gone on they still post whats been happening.

Having a female lead character is pretty much a requirement of mine in order to start my 'real' playthrough of Kenshi. I understand I am in the minority, and that realistically I will have to wait some time for female models to be added to the game. I have had Kenshi shelved for some time now, and it seems it will remain so for awhile yet.

A wonderful game all the same, I'll be looking forward to all of the latest and greatest from the LoFi team.

Dissapointed? Hardly. I'm rather jazzed that he's gone this route as it's taken a good deal of effort on my part to keep my desire to see this stuff sooner rather than later to myself.

I'd like to build my final squad setup, get to know the guys (and gals) a bit better and so on. I've had my fill of placemarker characters for the time being. For me this model and gear update brings far more to the game than walls, not in small part because before the walls are awesome we're looking at another several month dev cycle at a minimum. This one will get me playing (and testing) again for a while in the meantime.

Besides, he is still working on walls. IIRC part of the wall problem was the map itself, this is more than likely busywork while the prerequisite stuff for that is getting implemented. Still right on track from where I'm standing.

I hope it's manipulateable beyond raw stats. I'm not particularly partial to having everyone in my squad balloon up to Hulk proportions as a matter of course.

You know, the bump mapping cannot alter the size of polygonal objects, it only rough or polysh its surface.
In 3D graphic design (well, C4D is the only I know good enough to talk about), we use the bump channel to apply details on a texture (like skin grain, scars, etc...) It doesn't alter the global size of an object. It's used to keep the low poly objects... well... low poly, and to not add polygons to do some details (which would be absolutly bad for optimisation, better graphics but not good for gaming, good only for movies).
Your chars will keep their arm and leg bulk, but the muscles will be more or less apparent (read drawed, I don't know the word, english isn't my native language) according to their STR stat.
Your chars won't grow in size because of their stat, don't worry. It's like he lost fat, replaced by muscles ^^

I don't know if i'm clear, I don't speak english good enough to explain in details what this does, but don't worry, your team won't look like hulk, unless you made them to in the character creation tool ^^

And I can only guess that this won't be demesurate, since Chris seems to take realistic very seriously in the game, which is a very good plus.

Perfectly clear, and thank you for the explanation.

"Defined" may have been the word you were after.
