So lately I've been trying very hard to justify my usual gear usage on my characters.
My endgame standard has always been...
1. Highest damage long reach weapon
2. Highest defense armor regardless of weight/skill impact
3. Backpack which doesn't impact combat speed.
Thinking on it though, this seems to be most effective in prolonging a battle against a larger enemy force. What happens when you want to eliminate the enemy quickly? What if the enemy is decked out in heavy gear?
The question is, would a character setup for high attack/defense speed with a katana be able to reliably defeat an opponent with heavy armor and a heavy weapon? They would attack more often, hit more often, defend more reliably and move faster. The downside is they would take more damage....
I think once ranged combat starts up the heavies will reign supreme, but right now I think a light build is viable. Once this happens though, what purpose does a light infantry serve? Perhaps they will be more useful once stealth/assassination are implemented and they can dodge arrows. Maybe if they have a sufficiently higher speed they can "backstab" heavier opponents.
I'm just trying to figure out how this games "Combat Triangle" is going to work...
Combat attribute balance, what makes a difference?
Forget combat triangle. What about keeping to the spirit of X-Com apocalypse?
Use aim attack to disable they body parts. Take out the arm to stop the heavy weapon user, take out the legs and watch the heavy armour soldier bleed to death. Maybe the developer and modders might add nice stuff like land mines, pit-traps or ninja-stuff like smoke bombs, fire grenades and caltrops.
I wonder if there'll also be unique equipment that could be equiped at the armour or backpack slot, stuff like banners and musical instruments to enflame the heart or just a plain flamethrower or flare launcher. Might even be a portable crafting table to construct deadly traps or a special pet that would fight by my side and afterwards feeding it with the corpses of the fallen.
I want to kill my enemies with methods so devious yet so shameful to their honour, in ways that would put me in an uncontrollable fit of evil laughter
...reminded me of Dungeon Keeper, those were the good old days...

I like the idea of ranged weapons having a focus target point you can pick.
Like arm/leg/head/torso.
Right now i can take on any group with a katana, its the fastest to attack/block.
The only issue is if i let a heavy weapon guy get close and attempt to strike me, i sometimes cannot block it purely because of that weapon type, as it kinda should be.
Light armor and combat speed bonus gear is stronger than anything else i think, because of the movement speed, that and with the combat system not letting you close the gap on people you are faster than, unless they are severely broken in a leg.
Heavy armor = only good if everyone of the group has it with high skill, and still i can kill them with a katana with only minor injuries if any at all.
Ranged weapons will be a big patch i think, because of the massive amount of diff types and attack types that could come with them.
I am surprised though that with all these melee weapons, that nunchuks are not in the game.

I have a guy I trained using heavy clubs and he smashes through people like a rhino in his heavy armor. Took out a group of Imperial Samurai just to see if he could do it.

i have my Hatsune Neko ( Holy Sword ) setup to sue katanas
as of last time i played he was at 35 combat and 40 defence.
I can tell you even though he took hits. he was very effective against Imperials and their heavy armour.
2 man squad both wearing Ninja clothing armour both using katanas
i can usually cut down 4 or 5 Fresh meat ( No Damage before fight )
if the group i fight is damaged i can take out about 10.
but the groups i fight usually have about 20 emperials ( Modded squad sizes )
So for me quick and fast works well

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

Haha, i was trying to do something like this before 0.46.0 and 0.46.1, but have been unable to play since those 2 patches.Deadmeat5150 wrote:I have a guy I trained using heavy clubs and he smashes through people like a rhino in his heavy armor. Will be interesting to see if Assassination and Ranged weapons do well if you are wearing Heavy armor.
Fragment axe. 78 strength. I forget combat. All I can say, one shots every part hit. I've broken so many heads ._. I mean, like. BROKEN. Not in the negative, I mean BROKEN. INSTA DEATH on unarmored. Nothing like having some cannibal run up to you and instantly die, one hit to the chest BAM.
I think any character with 78 strength will 1shot most things regardless of weapon lol.SnowyDay wrote:Fragment axe. 78 strength. I forget combat. All I can say, one shots every part hit. Anything over 50+ strength is pretty damn strong, even those ronin worth $5000 are no match.
I know
It took a LOT of downs to get that ONE guy that high. I started off with making him carry bags of fragment axes and that heavy plated armor (in his regular inventory) for I think up to 30 strength? or something 30+. Then it was just swing swing swing. XD
The hard part was training his dexterity. Strength does nothing if it takes 10 years to actually swing the stupid axe ._.
