Experience rather than looks -
One thing to mention... Kenshi has a lot going for it, a lot... We all know that what makes a game great is its experience and playability, its immersion into another world. Most games these days rely on graphics, beauty and its look, lets please keep Kenshi playable, playable on most computers people would have these days. Too many games come out and require only the best card and computer most cannot afford...... There is a reason why RollerCoaster Tycoon struck gold..... Dont get me wrong, I expect Kenshi to look great, which is great, but I hope its not over-done, keep it simple, simple is key. ...... My opinion
"There is a reason why RollerCoaster Tycoon struck gold"
There is also a reason why the new simcity flunked, small cities so "it is playable on all current hardware configurations" rather then "small, medium and large tiles so people can play with settings that their hardware can handle"
Allright there were actually more reasons why the game flunked, biggest being "online only" combined with "crappy servers" But the small city tiles is/was pretty much the runner up.
Anyway, just want to say, I think it's a bad idear to hold back on game development just so the game can run on all systems. Especially when it comes to graphics where you can have settings like resolution and such to make the game run better on your system. I mean why not ask for a game that can run on your old pentium 133 with 16mb of ram(witch is way more then the 640kb that anyone ought to be enough for everyone)

I'm fairly certain that if you put the graphics settings on fugly you can run this game on a pre-2002 PC. Also, last i checked other than Rust or Eleusis i can't think of a recent indie title requiring a high end card. Hells, if you've got a basic nVidia card kenshi should be flying too. PhysX on AMD..oooh billy..the pain.
Try keeping the view distance low to reduce RAM usage too. I feel your plight OP,, however it might just be worth upgrading soon. 64bit OS is the standard now and anything less than 8gb of ram is noticeable. On the plus side however because these are quite recent standards you wont need to upgrade too soon.

... The .70 version unfortunately rendered using my laptop ineffective for playing because of its integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics series). My desktop has AMD graphics, which I'll start putting its specs to my signature once I start using it.
So pretty much, cheap graphics support worked until .69

RollerCoaster Tycoon didn't sell so well because it had simplistic graphics, it sold so well because it had fantastic gameplay.
While I do hope this game looks super pretty (my PC can more than handle it), I would agree that it should not come at the expense of gameplay. Kenshi's shaping up to be a truly unique game, and I doubt the developer (I hesitate to say "Chris" when I hardly know him) is going to dump that or ignore it simply to improve graphics.
Though I do think optimization is super, super important. But that's the last part of development.

I mean no offense, but can I ask why you put your specs in your signature? People do this a lot of places and I was under the impression that it was some kind of e-peen display, but it clearly isn't for you.Aereto wrote:... specs in sig line is to help developer know what your basic system is so at a quick glance they can see if tis a recurring issue on certain machines.

As someone who played on a potato up until recently, I understand the wanting for less demanding graphics. Honestly I never really cared much for graphics, while they can certainly help, they usually fall behind gameplay, ai, engine and those other good features. I would prefer those things and a few others to take priority over graphics, especially npcinteractions, specifically npc faction interactions. Then again that's just me, and the game development is in the hands of the developers, which is usually the best case for everyone.

Asking for a game that's already behind the graphics curve to some how make a transaction where it gives up any looks it has for gameplay is absurdly silly. first of all, such a deal with satan doesn't exist.
Second, i don't think it's wise for a game intended to have lots of blood, cannibalism, and dismemberment to take marketing tips fro roller coaster tycoon.
third, there are no games that require the latest graphics card that are coming out. they wouldnt sell anything, because most people are many generations behind. Low settings exist for a reason, sorry your fucking intel chip can't play a video game, buy a better computer. God damn people who try to get stuff downgraded after their dell that was barely able to render a web page or a spreadsheat 10 years ago doesn't work with kenshi really irritate me.

As far as I can say, not everyone has the mighty performance PC specs whose prices put the latest console generation to shame in the 'most expensive' category. I placed mine to show the PCs that I use the game with while keeping track on how they are faring as the game goes up in versions. The game is still being developed, and I am keen on seeing its hardware needs.EternalAmbiguity wrote: I mean no offense, but can I ask why you put your specs in your signature? As far as one have noted, the laptop being displayed has too poor of an integrated graphics chip to play the .70, simply crashing right after the world terrain was loaded. The desktop went past that mark, only to notice that there is consistent lag throughout my play. Optimizations would come at a later date, but we are dealing with the 'now'.
On a side note, I am aware of custom PCs, but they are desktops. What I don't hear are the custom laptops, built from parts by the individual rather than manufacturer.
While I see your point, last I checked, what I can buy a better computer (or at the very least build one to meet my needs) tends to cost more than consoles of the latest generation. Specs-wise or not. High performance demands meet a niche target, of course, though middle income groups is the cut-off point for being able to afford such hardware. Last I checked, people can't go from low income to mid income that easily.Mattk50 wrote: third, there are no games that require the latest graphics card that are coming out. they wouldnt sell anything, because most people are many generations behind. I've had nothing but issues with nvidia lately. Constantly crashing drivers being the main. I dont think my card is bad off, it works fine in most situations but alot of times now adays it flat out crashes the drivers rendering games in a funk, where I have to manually close them out. Prior to, hell if I can remember exaclty, driver 320 I hardly ever had issues.McDerp wrote: Hells, if you've got a basic nVidia card kenshi should be flying too. PhysX on AMD..oooh billy..the pain.

it cost's slight bit more, you could get by and play kenshi decently for 500-700 depending on what sales you grab, but you're also getting a computer with all the utility that goes along with that. And generally, people buy computers anyways. And games are cheaper on pc by a huge margin.Aereto wrote:While I see your point, last I checked, what I can buy a better computer (or at the very least build one to meet my needs) tends to cost more than consoles of the latest generation. Im not making some kind of argument against people below middle income groups not being allowed to enjoy video games. Im not saying it's easy to climb out of that either, the way capitalism works makes that extremely difficult, or that it's their fault for not working hard enough for something. Im just saying, if you're in that group and you continuously ask for not just standard optimization, but downgrading or a change in the game just to suit your inadequate, shit hardware, especially in fucking computing which advances leaps and bounds reguarly, then i have a serious problem with that. It's not cool to try to downgrade things and hurt the experience for everyone else who have the hardware to run it well, just so you can play it. And, in a sense, it impedes the progress of tech advancement.
Before you say "but kenshi ran before!" It's an alpha version early access game, everyone knew this. Upon initial release it had low poly models barely any texture work, a nonexistant lighting model, no foliage, and much lower population counts. Did you honestly expect it to stay like that forever?
Suffice to say, your point is something I am not against. As tech progresses, that progress trickles down the class strata, sometimes skips a stratum depending on the intended growth/circumstance.Mattk50 wrote: it cost's slight bit more, you could get by and play kenshi decently for 500-700 depending on what sales you grab, but you're also getting a computer with all the utility that goes along with that. I am aware that game development subsequently affects the hardware demands. I have set two computers of different performance specs. I took note at what particular version is when the particular hardware no longer keeps up. I am still supportive of the game, even if both of my active computers fall off the min specs chopping block, for the gameplay is promising and willing to risk some of my funds by mail to back it.
(And to think that this laptop is in the $500-700 price range, and that was last year. The Intel laptop performed better than the AMD desktop in terms of responsiveness/workload, despite both nearly filling the 500GB hard drive. It was supposed to be a business laptop, after all. To me, gaming is serious business.
As much as I know, my AMD desktop struggled to play it, though still playable compared to my Intel laptop. Lags in intervals every step of the way. I have heard of the differences between Intel and AMD hardware, especially when their clock speed are not under the same sort of standard.xeoneex wrote:I've had nothing but issues with nvidia lately. Not sure if McDerp's circumstances with AMD are similar to mine, but my chips are down.
