Like i see a bunch of slavers all over the place. tons and tons and tons of them. But they are just wondering around, doing NOTHING!!!!
Like seriously, it must be a nice racket, wondering around all day long, collecting pay for doing nothing, while everyone else does all the work.
and they are SLOPPY!!!! like i stumbled upon some hungry bandits in shackles, just standing there crying. Those shackles are worth more then the bandits, and these lazy slavers just leave them and the slaves lying around in the middle of the desert, to be eaten/kidnapped by morally challenged people like myself.
So they should be following the player around, asking: have you seen any escaped slaves, we will give caps and money for escaped slaves.
and if it looks like you kick a lot of ass, then they should just follow you around, and "clean up" after you too. AND, they should offer to buy any knocked out people you may be carrying.

I duno, if you can break the shackles with your bare hands, that would make replacing shackles too expensive.
and if you are rich, why would they enslave a client? These are guys that are in it for the money....
Unless they are enslaving for sex, then all bets are OFFF!!!!!!

If they could get all the assets, then they would also get all the debts too!
And that would be WORSE!!!
Like seriously, look at all those bankrupt starving bandits out there. Could you imagine the repossessions if someone had a huge gambling problem?
Like imagine you had the - cats bug that was around back in .30, where people had -billions in cats Ultra debt. That would just wipe out the trade guild if they enslaved someone like that.
i don't thing the debts factor into it since as soon as you become a slave you are property an no longer an individual :d
and it depends on how big the traders guild is , constantly selling people i would imagine even in a period/time/reality where its legal people would probably still be worth a few thousand each.
followed by all the merchandising an resources produced by slave labor.
i imagine they're among the richest in the world of Kenshi. they probably have billions of reserves :p

my issue is that they are connected with the traders guild.
so fighting them, means starting a war with the traders guild, meaning no more visits from them.
I have been knocked out a few times in front of them, but they have not tried to enslave me.
Granted, i can break the shackles, and i could get back up in 80 seconds
so i do not know what the criteria for an enslavement is.
I also find abandoned slaves just standing around in places

yeah for slavers there good at 'enslaving' people not so good at holding them , also i think shackles should require something to break them assuming they're metal , with metallic locks. breaking the chain might be do able but i don't think it'd be possible to break the actual cuffs , this is assuming the chain is rusty too . or you spent about 100 or more hours constantly stressing the chains. an they eventually broke . other wise i don't see a human breaking metal cuffs on their own. not that there aren't ways to escape them without but usually without a Key depending on the shackles might mean losing a thumb , or some skin atleast.

Have you looked at the weight of the heavy weapons?
a guy who can wield a 56kilo fragment axe, and break rib cages with one hit, killing a person, could probably rip apart those shackles, and then rip apart the slavers afterwards....
Though i think tool usage will be a thing, because one of the options is "use tools", and tools are a trade good.
Which is awesome, as i look forward to using tools for stuff, like repairing things, building, and other things.

but Ribs really aren't as durable as people make them out to be. Bone really isn't all that strong . compared to well..almost any other solid substance. plus your fleshy meat suites with all their sloshing around that drives droids crazy.
are nice for holding in all the water but not so much for resisting damage. plus using only one hand to try an break the shackle .
even if you were pulling them to part would be more a physical endurance thing then a strength thing. since the metal would have to give out before the bone and flesh does. since you wouldn't likely build up much momentum with the cuffs on .

Chinsei not to rip on you or anything, but bone is, gram for gram, much stronger than steel. Bones are made of type I collagen, a protein with very high tensile (pulling) strength. In fact, compared to almost any other solid substance, bones are made up of some of the strongest organic materials in nature. However, what bones do not have is high impact strength.

The real threat to breaking bones is not the force applied, but HOW FAST the force is applied and in what direction (vertical, such as a jump or horizontal, such as a metal bar hitting your leg). In physics, such as car crashes, very fast impact times are dangerous. That is why cars are designed to crumble on impact; to increase the time of the collision.

In the case of breaking shackles, we can assume that they are made of a rough iron, possibly deteriorating due to rust and sand. Industrial, steel shackles have a 2-ton working load limit. Any higher and they are at risk of breaking. The strength of iron compared to steel is around 1/3, and that is being generous considering the assumption that the shackles are made of quality iron and are in peak condition.
http://www.makeitfrom.com/compare/ASTM- ... Cast-Iron/
That leaves you with requiring at MOST 1300 pounds of pressure to break the iron shackles. So is it possible? Yes, it is possible. If you can swing a 50+kg object like a baseball bat it would be easy. Also, you could use the force of another object such as a rock or heavy weapon to break/wear down the shackles. If done properly, bones will most likely not be broken at that level of force. You wouldn't use momentum to break cuffs. You'd use torque, tensile force, etc.

Guys...
Be civil
Anywho....
I am starting to think the people in kenshi, are not really "people"...
Like maybe they are genetically engineered super humans who have survived on a harsh planet for centuries.
also keep in mind that eventually we will have to deal with limb loss, and gain cybernetic limbs, that will also up our strength too.
I have a hunch that shackles will come in grades in the future, so there will be different strength requirements for breaking them.
Leviathans have a strength of 80, a feat that is not too hard to achieve. So breaking shackles would be on par with someone with this strength, who can also wield weapons as heavy as people, and break open city gates with a few swings.

riiight.. so... i guess all the people who break bones are faking it. i mean dude trips over his own feet breaks a leg..totally stronger than steel.Rikter wrote:Chinsei not to rip on you or anything, but bone is, gram for gram, much stronger than steel. Not everything you read on the internet is true.
Human bones aren't strong in the slightest. you take a steel rod, and a bone set them both in a crusher its going to take more effort to break , or bend the steel rod then it will to bend or break the bone.

and its possible after all who knows how the people of Kenshi's world/universe evolved they could be like Klingons :p they could look similar to humans an be physically build like tanks with double redundancies everywhere ^.^ or Betazoids, with strong empathic abilities. ^.^
after all i think i read somewhere about how this wasn't meant to be historical earth . it was meant to be like a alternate reality type thing. (my memory isn't great so i could be wrong) .
and of course limiting the characters to be like earthlings would be a little lame if we based them on 'modern' humans because looking at claimed accounts from history. people were alot stronger and alot more capable then, than we are now.

Yeah, everyone has the potential to be badass in this game, so long as they work at it...
But those damn lazy slavers!!
I ran into TWO escaped dust bandits today. They were just picking up the free weapons at the nests, and were trying to kill anyone they could.
which makes me wonder a bit, what the hell is up with those guys?

Maybe for the starving bandits, but i do not think so for the dust bandits
Sometimes you can talk to a dust boss, and he will ask if you want to fight.
the answer is the same regardless, you will have to fight.
So why are these guys so aggressive?
Maybe dust is not the desert, maybe dust is a type of narcotic? you can buy drugs from the trade guild....
However, they also strike me as a remnant of an army. Maybe they are guys that just have not stopped fighting?

eh could just be natural human feelings of resentment to people they percieve as being better off. :p perhaps there 'dust' bandits because they never bathe? after all o.o i've yet to see any bathhouses in Kenshi ^.^ i imagine smell wise everyone is quite ripe.

I think the dust bandits, used to be an army. Like i get this impression that there is a collapsed nation out there, and that the dust bandits were the army, and the starving bandits were the people,
and the dust bosses were mercenaries that the soldiers started following.
some offical lore would be nice to explain this....
The fact that all the weapons are poorly maintained leads me to believe this.
but why the need for so many slaves?
I would like to see some slave factories, slave farms, and a bigger slave based economy in the future,
IE: knock out slave production, so that OUR production is the only one available!
