I chose to start with the holy sword scenario. This puts me at odds with the Holy Empire. So I can't go near their cities, do I have any other options to acquire building materials?

there's two other towns you can go to on the current map, mongel in the middle of the fog isles and hub which is basically just one bar and trader bandit outpost in the south. Hive villages sometimes have building materials too.

The holy empire is really unfriendly, i started a shek trader and quickly realized i wasn't allowed to go visit any of the holy empire towns because i wasn't human, some trader i am!

you can buy items from hive villages building materials included. you can find then in the south western section of the map. Just run along the river.

Thanks! I looked at the HUB from far away and thought it was still Holy Empire's town! Now I can start building!

I have never seen building material in Hub or in 5 hives i found.

I havn't seen any in the Hives at all. But I did get some from the barkeep at Hub.

You could try to get their uniform and thus get into their town.
I'm now playing same way - occasionally (well, not really) got uniform of Holy Servant (robe and stout hessian) But any time as I'm trading I'm getting exposured for about 130-200 sec. So now I'm not trading with Holy Nation - stolen goods are cheaper than bought ones. :roll:
Also component/building stuff vendors has pretty bags for building materials...

I know, not having any Bags is killing me haha! Building is so much slower and trading/travel isn't paying off!
