Using Other Factions Benches

So I joined the floatsome ninjas and tried to use there work benches and all of the stuff I put in to the bench disappeared (I think it was ninja'd). So I decided to I would go up to Worlds End and use some of there work benches and research the tech to make a small house and set up a shop some place.
I am able to do research (My science skill goes up) on the World End benches but I can't actually unlock any tech. I bought book and placed them into the work bench so I know I was doing that part right.(and when I took it out they started attacking me for removing "their book').
Cant I just not use other factions benches or do I need to be part of that faction (the one time I succeeded in making a piece of leather the ninja's felt that it belonged to them)?
All I really want to do is set up a small shop, a bar, and a small house. I don't really want to have to build a bunch of stuff just to build a few buildings.

I don't think using other faction's benches is implemented yet, and i do not know if it ever will be, but idea itself is just great, and would open bunch of new gameplay scenarios, like what you wish to perform, or maybe people searching for some ruins to settle, or whatnot.

However, you can't build close to other towns, and if you want to set a shop at some town, you'll have to purchase building there (some are available in almost any city, small houses oftenly).

Although i'm not sure about those mechanics for players who had joined some faction, and aren't nameless anymore.

I recently found an ancient robot depot (can't remember what it's called) over near the cannibal plains and it had a research bench but I couldn't try to use it because an Plate metal station was in the way and I couldn't quite get to it. I was thinking that since it was basically factionless maybe I could use that but I wasn't able to.
