So I'm looking at upping my squads combat abilities but next to fighting raptors or training them woefully against other dummies until I can get the level 3 ones since we can no longer use the faction based ones without there being repercussions, my lower ranked members are getting battered around like a virgin in a whore house.
And its not pretty either when simple starving bandits come along and put you down fast because my main fighters are banged up and unable to take too many hits without fainting.
Basically wheres the best place to level fighteres of skill set 30+ and wheres the best place to rank up fighters of a skill set 29 and lower without them dying horribly?
I want to expand out but I can't do that for now as I get smashed everywhere due to low ranking fighters who are unable to pull their weight or high ranking fighters getting mobbed down because they're too few in number.
Best place to level
Hiver country. Hunt Gorillos and Beak Things. Build a shack with a couple beds, and the Gorillos/Beak Things will leave you alone while you sleep, or just retreat into Hiver villages for protection when you need it.
Sell the skins for food at Hiver merchants, if you really need money for food. (Your people -will- eat fish if they're about to starve.) If you get lucky, you might be able to take out some Garru or wild bulls and eat like kings on the meat.

Wasn't that "-I'm sleeping, go away, kill me next time; -Ok, i leave" thing fixed couple updates ago?

Remember that inititally its better to set anyone with low attack skill and block skill to just block, until their block skill is high enough to survive and get some hits in when you disable block. Generally i recommend fighting hungry bandits and river raptors early on.
This may seem backwards but I have found that being a slave is a great way to increase toughness and defense. If you unlock the shackles (which I think might be the heaviest items in the game) and stick them in your regular inventory you can level you strength too as they get replace over and over again. Cages are good for training up Thievery and nightly mischief will up you Stealth and Assassination. Knock out and/or steal the weapons from the guards and you can train in one of their towers (if you are in Rebirth) or by attacking the other guards. They will attack you to the point of knocking you out then put you in a cage and heal you up.
I also use cannibals for some of the same reasons. Free food, Thief training, I can smack them around until they heal me, Ect.
If you go the Cannibal route be wary of rampaging Beaked Horrors. I escaped my cage, was sneaking out after a bunch ran out of the camp, upon seeing 3 of the retched things I ran back to a cage that would let me escape conveniently and as 1 of the Dastardly devours came into the enclosure it was attacked by more cannibals, which it killed and ran off after others. That cage saved my life.
Remember Cannibals are the only thing that will eat you out on the Cannibal Plains.

Hi,
To: Ratwell. When I start a new game, I often do the same as you described, but only with Holy Mines, not cannibals... I'd not thought of doing that cannibals. So, if it's backwards, then I'm backwards, too! Haha! I actually like starting off with Rock Bottom in this method, as it gives me time to think of other mischief I can get into and maybe different gameplay ideas.
Long story, but one time, Slavers were imprisoned, including their leader. I thought Slavers were only males, but noticed female ones, too. That was my chance! I disguised my female character as a Slaver and waited to depart with crew. However, since the leader was imprisoned, the rest of the Slavers didn't leave (included the ones I freed). So, when they followed the leader to hit the rock quarry, I high-tailed out of there in Slavers' gear with other goodies (food, etc). That was one of my most fun & memorable games.
