Notes:
"My trained thirty some strong crew landed in the new world. Food was immediately a devastating issue. Teams were split up by ability and run speed. My craftsmen relaxed in an outlaw bar while my hunters gathered massive piles of raw meat.
After scouting out the land, we discovered a land far to the North filled with robots in towers and spiders of metal. We ended up having to sell all the heaviest gear and reallocate weight. The journey north claimed the lives of two of my crew. Despite the guard, the lack of food and overall struggle made the Oregon trail too hard. Oscar was lost to Cholera. James to Raptors.
After landing north we set up a base and tried to dig in. The attacks by spiders and not being able to eat metal was not heartening. Now we're beginning to stockpile meat, but the going is rough."
This new update is amazing!
It's amazing to see that combat has improved tremendously. Very happy. I haven't explored the update in depth, but I've read the changelogs.
Whatever are some of the biggest game changers you've seen in the new map? (Besides hunger)
Fantastic Improvements!

I can't think of anything as drastic as hunger mechanic for gamechangers. Everything else is, so to speak, a nice small incrustations to an already neatly formed and mostly finished piece of jewelry.
And i am actually glad that i've discovered the game at the point when its core concepts already solidified, so none of the big features were cut out in the process of development, as it happening with EA indie games sometime.
I really like the brunchfull dialogues that may lead to various immediate consequences based on numerous factors though. That's very neat.

Independence achieved!
It took a crazy amount of time to settle down into a location and have my colony be autonomous. Now my craftsman can get to work and we can start learning tech and devloping.
I kept having to check up on my guys to make sure they weren't passing out from hunger. Now they cook tons of vegetables! Not very delicious, but it'll do for now.
I can finally send my avatar out exploring to go hunt the new enemies! Mega raptors and such. Which I've never seen yet but hear are crazy nasty.

This game continually amazes me in the way it gets me telling a story without even realizing it. Suddenly I'm thinking about the lives and deeds of my band of thieves... there are so many epic things in the game but it's the little things that always grab me. I've loved how the people around me -- squad and otherwise -- always have little things to say. With these latest patches I've been thrilled to find companions with their own stories.
Recently I wandered down to the Rebel Base from a mine I have nearby... the base was having an ongoing attack of hungry bandits so there was a big pile of them outside the door. A Holy Nation Outlaw came limping over to me saying something like, "Hey, I'm pretty badly hurt -- if you don't mind patching me up maybe I could join you?" along with a general desire to have reliable friends. I joined them up pronto!
Very few games have so many little surprises that make this feel like a fantastic RPG from those Neverwinter Nights days... only better.

Boost this, I just swam across a river that I had swam across so many times before.
Suddenly all my characters are screaming in pain about the water burning them. Freaked me right out.
Acid rivers!!!!
Sweet!
I will be more careful to use bridges now.
And of course I also want to make a moat of that stuff around my base.
