However, a few days ago I saw a dead Security Spider with flies around it, and I can imagine (haven't tested this) that dead skeletons also attract flies. Is this intended? Are they attracted to the leaking oil or hydraulic fluid?

Noticed that too, rather hilarious overlook 
That is unless robots actually contain some form of organics, for they manage to regain their spilled oil somehow as well.
