You don't worry yourself, my fellow, greedy, world-dominating mastermind friend, walls and living economies will soon exist in this world.

Actually, on the subject of living economies, is there a finite amount of currency (is it called catans or cats?) that exist in the game, or will the economy pretty much be allowed to grow to whatever size you want? For example, does the game start with, say, c 100,000,000 and that's that for the entire gaming session, or will the game automatically produce more money and allow the economy to grow bigger depending on external factors?

Especially so if the desert will remain the primary environ, but even still, to a lesser extent, any terrain type. Similarly, building a mine on a rare resource would get peoples attention, everyone wanting what you have is a drawback all it's own.
I love that idea this would mean that when you have a good group and settle down then you can set up near rare materials or if you have a small group of newbies then you can settle in really unpopular areas. This would add a large amount of strategy to settling down and also to general defence.

Let's hope not. I am for one looking forward to all the different biodomes and maybe a more "tribal" / nomad (as in for example Mongol or Native American) way of living once we get animals (and maybe mounts).

I am hoping for a big map with lush green forrests to hunt and herd animals to have a ... well maybe not entirely pacifist way to start out, but least a way to start the game without needing to slaughter people :)

At least for my sandbox i would love the ability to go "native" or start out as a farmer/hunter

While I agree with the concept of game options, for example instead of a war-band it would be fun to start as a farmer and build a trade empire peacefully expanding your influence. Building up a native-style tribe of hunter-gatherer nomads would also be interesting. However, neither of these options exclude desert as the primary environ, infact either would be more challenging and interesting if there was limited fertile land.

I wonder if generator fuel is going to be a resource that can be harvested and refined, or if it has to be imported to the Kenshi country/province, and thus can only ever be bought. If it can eventually be mined, then we may see some oil barons spring up.

Oh, that could be real fun. Add in a whole new mini-economy and mini-faction based simply around oil... Especially if any motorized vehicles are added in later.

@CalPal:

When I (try to) speak about an economic system, i think about auto-caravan, Traders from other city in relation with the Faction system etc... Cause actualy, its just possible to send every 24hrs a mule-zed to do that. It will be great to have the possibility (after discovered places) too establish few economics roads (hummm a bit like the system in this good old game THE GUILD or the other reaaaaaly old Game HIGH SEAS TRADER)

The other point is: if i produce items in large quantity whats happend with the value of those items?
Prices stay egal or it is adjusted (erff other way: More there is a stuff, lower is the price, this is where i want to go).

-I'm not sur about expendable wealth, cause theyre is no utility to have millions and millions banked.
except being cool for ego ;p
-Have to payed weekly for our Zed or/and for building maintenance will be one of many other points and probably not so hard to code (even if i have any ideas about... what is a F...g code).

PS: In fact, my english is absolutly and definitely more bugged than Kenshi :p

Ah, the Guild... the sequel is a game I would love nothing more than to play for hours and hours. Thank you for reminding me about other games I really need to get my hands on. :D

But I think I see what you're saying, at least for the first two points. Things like that and what I mentioned are what I would like to know about this game's economy. Do we have a finite amount of catans? Do factions have their own caravan units, or is there an over-arching traders guild? Will prices be affected by supply and demand? All that and maybe even more.

So, just another thing regarding the latest news post; I'll probably sound a wee bit impatient for asking, but I felt like someone had to ask eventually, so I'll go ahead and bite the bullet on this one.

Chris said that more research and the ability to craft weapons was going to be added 1 week from that news post. It has been 1 week. I get that it won't exactly be on the letter "1 week since the post" and that he says so himself - "Progress speed partially depends on my ability to dodge PMs and emails and pretend they're not there" - but has anyone else found the feature to be implemented in Kenshi yet without a news post?

Well, it's been EXACTLY one week.

I give until Sunday before I start being concerned that some big technically/support issue got him bogged down.

Well, thats gonna be awhile.

I mean, just building up my current town is nice enough for me. I am starting to peter out, now that I have a unit with 50 strength, 45 dex, 45 in attack/defense, and the MKIII Fragment axe, plus all the best armor.
And that's just one, several other have similar output.

That said, the "all dressed up and nowhere to go" issue is starting to creep in. I can only build so many superficial buildings and bake so much bread before I realize that I'm attempting to buy every building in Shark, plus furnish them.

I know the game in being put to the grind, and I am a patient man, but my hiatuses from the game just make me want to play it more.

I would love the hell out of some primative pumpjacks in your town. Would fit in with the wind power too, just the sound of that in my head makes me want it so bad.

Whelp... we do have ingame functionality for producing ethanol (aka moonshine) which has been known to cause blindness (when the methanol isn't properly removed) AND power internal combustion engines... just sayin'.

Not as spectacular as your suggestion but nearly ready to go.

It's reassuring that my faith in this designer's incredibly high standards isn't my imagination. I built my settlement on a massive mesa chain for it's defensibility and beautiful cliff facings, perfect for the placement of yup, five wind genertators, atop a hundred foot drop down to miles of relatively flat sand dunes. You know we're getting some wind up there. It's good to hear that it'll matter.

Hopefully it isn't just a straght x/y altitude calculation but comparative altitude. While there are higher mountains, I haven't seen many comprable height differences. Not that I'd complain either way. Well I might complain a little but it'd be that fake, weak, whiny complaning. Y'know, "Well gee, it's ONLY 20 Karat gold".
