Ok, I just came back only to find this game seems to have taken a 180. Last version I played was 0.7

To be blunt, I am at a loss for what to do. In-game help seems to have not been updated to mention how to deal with hunger and such.

As I can no longer use my previous strategys, I am now debating keeping my 14 man squad from 0.7, or starting a new character. Either way, I'm a bit lost.

TL:DR I need a crash course on whats changed the last 10 updates or so

I'd ditch the old squad, to be honest. I find until I get my own food production established I like to keep a small and efficient squad of no more than 6-8 so my expenses are low and I can devote more resources into building an outpost with that food production. Only right now if you build an outpost with that food production you'll have fifty cannibals swarming it repeatedly and at a rate that prevents you from being able to really do any building. On top of that, if you run from anything or you're wearing shackles, and you happen to get hit then you can expect to be automatically KO'd for a timer that apparently can be up to around 10000 (yes, you read that right,) and never seems to be less than 2400 as far as I've seen.

Basically version 0.92.1 is completely broken and is fit only to explore. It's working really well as far as loading goes, and the pathing *mostly* seems to be working better, but if you're expecting to play this like a sandbox RPG you'll be disappointed to find out 0.92.1 plays like glorified tower-defense where the bugs are ultimately what will defeat you.

If they fix those aspects, though, you'll find the game has advanced in a lot of really great ways. If they fix that tower-defense imbalancing, there are actually a lot of enjoyable early-game professions now, and the old scavenging grind is dead. Prior to this update I've tested farmers, traders, miners, hunters, and thieves all as enjoyable early-game professions. Most of these can advance well into the mid-game and probably even the late-game with some imagination. The trader/merchant profession is pretty intriguing, though if assaults are left the way they currently are it won't be worth establishing a trading post.

I'm thinking about starting a new game since all my current games have ended up roadblocked by what I describe above, but the only option I can think of that sounds at all appealing is the urban route. That's a little tough with the current map release because only one city currently has the buildings to support any mid-game play, and that city (Mongrel) is in the middle of the Fog Islands. The fogmen that inhabit that place are almost guaranteed to trigger that KO bug if you travel there without a mid-game character.

Thus, explore and pray for 0.92.2, but don't set your expectations too high for the current version. It's barely playable.

I did well by establishing a base half way up a cliff to the east of hub. We never get attacked, and were currently running 9 farms, have power, and are 13 people strong. I use basically naked runners on passive to shuttle and sell bread, then bring back books. Mercenaries do all of our fighting for us.

Easy start guide.

First thing you will need is food. With the hunger system in it is actually a survival game now. and there are no guarantees that you will.
if you are starting your old squad and have some money saved you can start buying food. Gohan and Meatwraps are that best bang for the buck.
If you are starting a new squad you will need to suffer through scraping enough money together to feed them until their skills grow to a better level.

There are lots of paths you can take for this including joining the holy nation and doing jobs for them. By far the easiest thing to do is mining. You can slip out within range of the town and mine some ore and then head back to sell it for just enough food to do it again. as your mining improves you will start to mine more then you eat. You can mine iron quickly, but copper gives you more money.
You can also start a life of crime and steal what you want.
Or follow the holy nation patrols around and clean up after them. (this tends to be the best pay)
be a lone hunter is hard but starting with river raptors and then dogs will build up your skills.

You will need to gather resources to build an outpost if you want to do any researching and growing. You need to have research books to learn new things and at least 18 of each crop type to start a farm. (8 for research, 10 to plant) You will need to start with green fruit. Watch where you build your outpost as there are lots more kinds of resources and not all plants grow the same in all biomes.

Currently in .92.1 there is a wall bug so don't bother building walls greater then makeshift to keep out the bandits and predators.

And remember that the holy nation has lots of issues. If you want to live near them you need to be human male. Otherwise you are going to need to live outside their territory.

That should get you started.

When you said doing jobs for the Holy Nation, do you mean actual jobs? Has any of that been implemented yet? Like you talk to an NPC and get a job to do and get paid for it?

I'm not 100% sure how much is working, but if you are in HN town then one of the priests will tell you to go to the temple and preform some tasks for him. He starts by asking you what you know about Orkan (sp). Then if you don't blow him off he suggests that you go to work for the temple.

I have said okay to finish the conversation but never followed up on it yet. So not sure what the tasks are. I have been meaning to start a new game and join the heartless bastards to see what happens.

You also have the option to talk to HN patrol leader and if he stop you you have a new option there which end with him telling you about doing jobs for them at the temple. I also never followed that suggestion cause doing jobs for HN might even mean to work as a slave as they tell to their slave to work hard for Okran to get redemption or what ever.

I've followed up on it and just walked around the temple confounded as to anything to do. I tried talking to the priest again when he eventually wandered in, but it just went through the same script. Couldn't really interact with anything else toward that end, so assuming it's just not implemented yet but I could be wrong.
