Not sure about taming, but you can go to HN farm, find elder and buy bulls from him. If he's a crazy hermit, which happens, you just do it fast with frequent pauses at the right moments, and when you done - run like hell to not mess with HN relationship :)

As Sol said u buy em at farms.
Also dont forget to buy the backpack for them right away.
U can also buy dogs.

And now my questions do these animals also lvl up there skills or not :)?

I dont really find em a good replacement for characters though, due to a long recovery time since u cant pick em up/drop em in a bed. :)

Offc these bulls are slow but they are able to carry alot of weight.

So if its a safe and short road to a shop its certainly an option.

Good question, never counted myself, but it feels like they gain something.

i mainly want to use them as extra back pack for foods... instead of spreading the foods in my characters' backpack, i was thinking of placing them all in the bull and whenever they're hungry during travel, i'll just transfer it...
also, for carrying loot from sacking the stores of its most valuable items

I use bulls extensively, and yes they do develop their skills. Most important skill to develop is athletics. Get your bull up to around 40-50 before you venture off anywhere too dangerous. As far as combat goes, I only allow my bulls to enter combat in absolute emergencies...basically when I'm sure they're going to get taken out right after my squad falls if they don't get out there and support my squad.

With the low speed, what I do is have at least one character following it while it travels, often with Bodyguard assigned as well. As soon as there's trouble I just use that character to smack anything around that goes near my bull, then divert the attackers away from my bull. I actually can't remember the last time I lost a bull, and that's even including when I had a hunting outpost in Vain with two bulls going back and forth from there to Blister Hill and the Hub.

Not that it hasn't been a challenge keeping them alive. That strategy will tend to give you the best odds, anyway.

Yes Jay but im at -100 rep with the holy nation, so the only free city i can go to are/is hives and hub
The hub is relatively bandit free, hives well there u got the gorrilla's and beakthings.

So for me bulls aint a sollution cos holy nation patrolls do kill stuff :p.

No i dont mention the other cities cos due to pathmaking i would never send a slow moving target to that city :p

The Hive villages are doable with the technique I described above. It's dangerous, but so is the wilderness around the Hive villages. ;)

If you make sure you buy a Domesticated Bull that is at least nearly full grown, it doesn't take much to train it up to a decent speed. I usually have mine running around at a speed of 16, and with someone escorting it with a speed higher than 20 it's not too hard to protect. Gorrillos can't catch it, and Beak Things are fairly easy to hit and run for the escort.

Athletics actually doesnt affect bulls. at all. They are always at the same maximum speed of 60(in the game files), but getting their str up does prevent them from going any slower when you weigh them down.

attached screenshot if you don't believe me.

I think you may be misinterpreting the data, but either way unless you're calling me a liar I don't know how that's supposed to contradict the fact that I've improved the speed of my bulls by training up their athletics.

I have a bull right now, full-grown, with a Speed of 13 and Athletics at around 20. Eventually once I start trading more I expect the bull to be running at 16 in no time. Just like I've accomplished many times already before.

"speed max skill" is 60. "speed min skill" is 60.

That means at both minimum and maximum athletics skill, a bull is at identical speed, 60. What you see in the screenshot is an unmodded copy, so either you have a mod that changes bull athletics, or somehow my install has been very precisely corrupted simultaniously on two computers i have independently installed kenshi on.

Your bull can speed up with strength if you have it weighed down, by the way. Also i heard the new speed meter in-game is bugged so that may be a source of confusion.

If I was describing a bull moving at speed, 16, with a mod (even though bulls move at 12 without any development of the Athletics skill,) I would have mentioned that. I am running no mods.

I suggest considering the potential you are speculating incorrectly on how the code operates with the information you found.

I can definitely and absolutely improve the speed of a Domesticated Bull by training its Athletics skill.

I'm quite interested on the topic! With dogs as well. Can you get us some proves? I think screenshot from a stats window of a fresh-adult bull where athletics, strenght and speed are visible before any training, and then after, would prove you right :) For experiment purity you'd want to make sure no strenght points were raised as well. Not saying you're wrong here, but screenshots would be cool to see.

Actually it doesnt matter which skill increases what to me. for me what matters is it possible to manually train skills of animals, by either fighting or just running around and NOT becos of them maturing...

Cos ive got bulls with 27 strenght and i have bulls with 21 strenght and they just stand inside my outpost with occasionally bandit spawning inside :p

Its not like i havent tested this ingame, unweighted bulls just dont get faster with more athletics, and i have the game files that agree. perhaps you are confusing speed from age with speed from athletics?

Dogs do speed up with more athletics, because their min and max speed arent the same. (70-90) For reference, a shek is 70-110 and a hive worker 80 -140

attached is an image of a bull at 80 athletics still going at 13 speed. same as a fresh bull at 10 athletics. Go ahead and test it and post the results, or something.

just use a standard strength training method, fill them with something extreme heavy like tons of water or power cores and have them follow someone doing a regular job at your outpost. The person shifting water around is usually a good choice.

I want to be able to rename them. Domesticated bull doesn't have that ring to it. Also it's a cow. Some armor options would be nice too. Maybe a collar that give some upper body protection and strong bleed protection.
