I think this has something to do with the auto-haul system. I'm trying to get my characters to fill their backpacks with wheatstraw, but every time he picks it up he puts it back and runs straight to another chest.

How do I make him stop?

Nevermind, I figured it out. There was food in the box but the characters can't get it out of the box themselves.

OMG, thank you so much! I've been having same issue with characters prefering a distant storage chest with some meat over the food barrel filled with tasties I never thought they actually can recognize food in other containers, and especially i wouldn't think they'd be unable to grab it.
