So I bought a building in a NPC town and mounted some crossbows on it, but now the NPC town guard has taken up position on one of them.

I'm not sure if this is undesirable behavior.

On the one hand its kinda cool, I got myself some decent free defense this way, plus this kind of thing can be exploited in other ways like being able to lock my door and assassinate a free lonely town guards from the comfort and safety of my home.

On the other hand my building is set to private and these asshole guards (and any other NPC, especially those nomad pack beasts) just come and go in my home as they please. Plus now I need to worry about guards in my own home in case I'm doing unlawful shenanigans.

Perhaps NPC's should respect private building settings the same way us players do?

This has been an oooooooooooold issue by now. But atleast they shouldn't be stealin' yer slaves anymore...atleast that's what the patch notes say...I think 've been hanging 'round with them swampers too much again.
...and so my legacy continues...

I am new to the game, (friend of mine hooked me up with a copy on steam, just downloaded it, but have played about 50 hours in 4 days). its got a good steep learning curve, and I am really enjoying it, especially trying not to react when I get "ganked" by overwhelming bandit numbers without warning, always fun to reload and figure out how to avoid it before it comes again. I didn't know that I could mount crossbows in town on my own buildings (I have a bunch of windmills and battery banks on them though) but now that I know, I think its a great idea, (guards or no guards) but yes, I noticed, even on private, they still wander through your buildings if you don't lock the doors when your in side. I am thinking that if on public, you get your stuff nicked from your chests, but if on private you still get walk throughs, just no missing stuff, I haven't tested that out yet though. I don't hang around for any raids on my settlement, I run into town, I am at the point where I can handle a few Dust bandits and that's about it. Now I am picturing several buildings close together in town with a lot of turrets.. more than enough to share with the local guards..
