I was doing some crafting for the first time, and started with leather crafting. The first recipe Trader's Leathers, seems very expensive. I was looking at the crafting window where it say at the bottom that it requires 1 fabric and 1 leather. It seem like it is using a little more than 1 fabric(not sure about that) but closer to 4 leather to make one. So the total cost of making one is roughly 1000 cats, depending on the markup price for materials.
I was just wondering if I'm reading this wrong or if it is a bug? I have two characters running around trying to find enough leather to keep my craftsman busy, but it is hard to find enough leather when he is consuming that much. Even at standard quality it is hard to break even.
Is there some way to see how much ingredients is needed for a recipe?

There is a material cost, refer to that as it determines the total cost.
Though, I am running the experimental version so that may change things. For example, right under the Trader's Leather Estimated Craft Time of 8hrs there is also:
-Materials Cost: 3.1
-Fabrics Cost: 0.62
So, from that I'd assume that 62% of the 3.1 materials needed have to be fabric.
