When I get a new hire into my group they get portraits from various angles the camera view is
either from slightly above or slight below, they might be looking hard left, a little left, a little right or hard right.
The portraits never seem to be dead on and always seem to be from random angles.
Is it random? Is there anyway to change the angles? Some hats, hair cuts, or styles just look annoying or having
five left looking avatars and 2 right looking avatars just pokes needles into my autism.

You can change them in the editor but it's a bit tedious, this is quoted from a steam discussion. I tried it and it works but where he says open the last "0" entry I found it wasn't always the last one and I had to go through them.
You can edit it in the FCS, but I'm not totally sure what the value for variable this represents.
A few steps involved and it's not overly user friendly, but I am a little OCD and the angle I had was annoying me. ^_^
You basically need to have another character with the angle/direction you want so you can just copy and paste the value. I've also noted that the other character should be the same hight (guessing it offsets from the head position?).
So the best way to do this is:
1. Move the character you want to change into a squad by themselves.
2. Move the character you want to copy the portrait angle/direction into another squad by themselves.
3. Save the game and quit.
4. Open the FCS, click 'open any' at the top and head to your save folder and then your save's platoon folder and open the "Nameless_[#].platoon" - # representing what ever number squad the character you wanted to copy the angle from (the one from step 2).
You'll notice there are a bunch of entries with just "0" and the last one will be the characters name.
5. Open the last "0" entry.
6. Scrolls down the list for Portrait Serial and then copy this value.
7. Open the "Nameless_[#].platoon" that has the character you want to change and then just open that last "0" entry and paste the new value into Portrait Serial.
8. Save and exit FCS.
You can then just load back up your save and the angle will be changed.

I appreciate the detailed work around. I'm wondering if anyone might have an easier way.. though I doubt it.

There are some portrait offset settings in the race tab of the editor, I don't know what they do but it might be worth having a play with them, you can always put them back if they mess it up.
I presume they are something to do with how much randomness there can be.....
Adjusting it would adjust every character of that race though, and might not change anyone already in your squad.

So necro-bump, is there any other options for changing the angle of view for characters? I don't understand how semi-random-yet-fixed angles was considered a good idea in the first place.
