When raiding towns if you do kill a shop keeper are their shop inventories on their bodies/backpacks or is it one of those games where their shop inventory is in some invisible chest unreachable?

Haven't played in a bit but I think what they sell is on their bodies. So yeah if you kill a shopkeeper and take his entire bag, you'll get everything I think, unless its changed.

You can access anything in their inventory through their pack, although the pack itself weighs 100kg, so it is best to loot the more valuable contents with characters with trading backpacks and leave the pack so you can move at a reasonable pace carrying it. However, violence in a shop will upset both the guards at the gates, and the shopkeepers guards. Beginning a war with one city will also affect your relationships with all of the allied cities, so it is best to choose your enemies wisely. For example, the Dead Cats guard Clownsteady and the Capital, the United Cities hold Brink and Shark, etc.

However, some cities have all their shops other than the trading posts under one local faction, and the trading posts under the traders guild. Brink and Port South for example, so you can disable and loot all of the gate guards and shop guards, and still trade with the trading post in those towns.
