I was just wondering since I read that .40 is being worked on, when the game is updated will I have to start over completely or can I use the people I already have?

Should be able to keep everything you have. Just let it update and once its done just use the import squad function.

Chris has stated a few times in the forums that he plans all updates to be compatible with each other forever.
