RACIST... but not really
So, at character creation, there is an option where you can be human or tribal. I'm curious as to what that is all about, whether any more races will be introduced, and really just what the plans or intentions are for that feature. I'd love to see multiple "races" of people, possibly with different starting relationships with factions, or maybe different proficiencies with weapons...

its been confirmed that there will be other races in the game, what they look like exactly Chris didnt say.
But you can expect them to all be Humanoid because animations are a problem and non humanoid animation would only make things alot harder for Chris.
If you have tried multiple starting scenarios you will notice that not only do you have differant items, members, and money. You also have differant faction alignments.
best example is starting with the Holy sword, your alignment with The holy empire becomes negative and they will attack you. Guards also dont fight them so your on your own for this.
More races, start scenarios and everything else are all coming, some in the next update.

I know animations are a pretty big thing to deal with, but once it's possible I would LOVE to have non-humans added into the game. Maybe the dev doesn't want that because it doesn't fit with the lore he's created or something, but if it does (and it very well might since he's talked about adding legendary monsters and stuff, so non-human races could exist in this world) it should be added. If not for the simple reason that people love to play as different creatures. Who would choose a human over a Tauren? =D
So anyways, while it may be too difficult and unnecessary as of now, in the future it would be awesome if non-human races were added, though hopefully not your cliché "I'm a cat man with fur and a tail but otherwise all human features" race. Those are fairly lame. =P Any other race, maybe even a demon race that the Holy Sword hates the hell out of, would be pretty neat.
If it can be done, do it. It's awesome. ;D

While I do agree it would be awesome to see other races in the future, it is not only a question of animation. If taurens were implemented all the gear would have to be remade for their size and body type. What about hats ? The horns would just go through the hat, or do we have to have a new hat specifically made for taurens ? Even implementing females is a bigger task, let alone speaking of non humanoid creatures. I would however, like to see some kind of cultural difference on people. A catan man being better at heavy weapons, or a man from clownsteady being better at bows and stuff like that. Just to mix the stats up a bit.CrazyCon wrote:I know animations are a pretty big thing to deal with, but once it's possible I would LOVE to have non-humans added into the game. heres something i recently found
so i dont think we will have much other than humans and the 2 races Chris mentioned that could be alien, im thinking that goes with the indigogo support rewards. The reward for a $2,000 contribution is to create your own faction. So if nobody claims these i think he will just make something up himself.Chris_The_Great wrote:The races will be mostly subtler things like you say, mostly moderate variations on humans. There may be one or 2 more alien types, we will see. There will be a robot race.

Yeah but if he has in mind "no aliens" as he has top word, your faction can t be alien, even if you have that perk. I said there alien as exemple by the way xD.islesofurth wrote:so i dont think we will have much other than humans and the 2 races Chris mentioned that could be alien, im thinking that goes with the indigogo support rewards. Alien is just another word meaning 'not one of us'.
many Asian countries classify anyone who does not have a local passport an "Alien"
but ya, i get what your saying

Tauren, really? Sigh...CrazyCon wrote:I know animations are a pretty big thing to deal with, but once it's possible I would LOVE to have non-humans added into the game. Anyway, I wasn't necessarily meaning other species and whatnot. HamSpanker (good grief btw) hit it on the head. Different cities or regions have different specialties. A city run by the Dead Cat faction could have a standard boost to their peoples' saber stat, while one run by the Holy Sword could be better with Katanas. That does bring up another thing I was curious about though: will it be possible to designate the kind of faction we are making ingame? For example, we know that the Holy Sword sounds like a religious group, Trader's Guild obviously a commerce based group, and Empire seems to be military. It would be interesting to be able to focus on one type of faction for our own group. Religious groups could have higher attack and lower defense, military could train with weapons faster, but buy at higher prices and sell at lower prices, and commerce could have higher trade values and faster production, but have lower combat stats. Just an idea of course, no clue how difficult that would be to implement.
And will be so, each faction will have different specializations, there a post lost somewhere from Chris where he speaks about it, if you want i might look it for to show, it part of what Islesofurth posted if i am not wrong.

I seem to remember Chris saying there won't be different species (which means nothing mythical, such as elves, trolls, all that stuff) but I also know that the 'tribal' people were called cannibals, so that'll be fun. So that should give you an idea of what the future 'races' will be. Probably just different people from different factions and such.
