Question in title. Houses in-town are rather expensive, and I'm wondering what people opt to do with them. Can you build power generators in-town? If not, what industries could you do inside of a house in a town? Do you just use them as a free inn with beds? Or a place with a research bench?
How do you guys use these buildings?
Those who buy buildings in-town: What do you use them for?

early research station and later on a shop or a place to build my own bed so i don't have to use Mr Floppies, or a place to build storage chests for all my loot to sell off over time.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?

I searched the forums and couldn't find my answer. how do you even buy houses in towns? Never found out how so I've just always built my own town.
Similar answer to Hatsune's, its possible to have your starting 2 research benches in a small house and a shop counter or a wall of storage chests.
I've also used it to house generators to power automated wells for the farms just outside (haven't done this in a while, not sure if its possible still).
It also used to be possible to build crafting stations in town whenever you bought a building, will have to start a new Wanderer game and try this.

Another good use is simply a bed. Now that the cannibals have clubs, they tend to hit harder. This means that if you are attacked during a trade run, you may need to heal. So having a bed in a commonly visited town will save you some money.
There are several advantages to trade runs for everyone to consider:
If you are selling heavy objects you will level strength
you will level athletics
you may fight someone worth a bounty
if you fight at all, this will level a bunch of different stats
money
having a base in town gives you a safe place to heal and saves you money in the long run. furthermore, as assaults become more commonplace and building destruction/capture becomes the norm, you may need a safe place to fall back to. Also please remember that weather and night darkness are planned but not implemented yet, so in the future, kenshi will be even MORE dangerous to travel, so you will need a few safe houses.

That makes perfect sense.
One thing that has bothered me, Where the hell is the catan scrap masters factory? Did it burn down? Did they outsource the labor somewhere else? The swords say "catan scrap masters" and the fluff says they are in catan, yet i do not see the factory anywhere in the city. does this mean that the cities will be expanded later on? I hope this gets addressed in the future.
