Greetings All

I am new to Kenshi having bought into early access on Steam and, what a pleasant surprise it was when I first started playing the game, this is truly a magnificent piece of interactive entertainment! In a time where PC gaming is littered with weak console ported, flashy AAA titles plagued by illegal, politically-motivated DRM regimes it's always a great moment when an indie developer comes out to show the big boys how it's done. Keep it up! it's you indie devs that set the standard and keeps PC gaming alive. It's been too long since a game kept me glued to the PC screen until the early morning hours with such innovative gameplay.

Now on to the topic, there has been many discussions about direct character control. True, a simple WASD control scheme for basic movement would be nice but, that's a discussion for the associated posts. I found a means of playing with semi-direct control in a over-the-shoulder type third-person view for non-combat play, many most likely already has their different tweaks but, here's how I do it:

-Select the character and lock the camera onto him/her by right-clicking on his/her portrait, zoom and tilt to get a nice third-person view and look at the character from the back.
-Point the mouse close in front of your character, to the side of the character around the lower body area, so that the mouse pointer is just next to the character's knee, or right next to the hip but, not too close to the character's body where right-click will open the context menu. Setting the mouse pointer around the hip area helps for running up slopes, above the head will also work for some.
-Hold down CTRL on the keyboard to lock the mouse pointer in place, I use a paper clamp to "toggle" CTRL sometimes, you must keep holding down CTRL or middle-mouse. (Kenshi's means of locking the pointer in place when rotating the camera makes this tweak possible.)
-Now just use the mouse to look around and use right-click to move forward.

It's not much, with no strafe and all, and it doesn't work that well in combat, but hey, it's something!

Playing like this has shown me how a third-person perspective can add a whole new level of immersion when playing the game. It has made travelling to town a whole lot more fun, and, coupled with disabling roof cutaway by opening and closing the editor, made walking through your town a fun distraction for admiring your hard construction work.

Feel free to post any other "third-person tweaks" you mght have discovered.

When I am running around with just one of my characters or even sometimes in combat I do similar things to give myself that level of immersion. I find it quite enjoyable. Good to post because I'm sure some people hadn't thought of doing this.

However with a squad of twenty I find myself forced to zoom out because its quite annoying to get blind sided by bandits haha.
