hi people. I was just wondering when severing is going to be implemented because i think it would be funny returning to town with no arms like "anyone got any spare arms?"

Are robotic limbs actually a planned feature? I almost remember hearing about that somewhere, but I can't remember where. That would definitely be a damn cool feature though.

Are you sure about that?
Severed limbs? Will there be severed limbs??!!!1!1!?

II am still thinking about this, I have a way but it may damage performance, and I need a feasable way for limb replacement in a game world too low-tech for robotics.

Yes, he said that, but he has said several times that there will be robotic limbs.

Also, if you look at your stats.....in the bottom right you will see engineering and robotics....also in the middle is turrets....He has veered from the low-tech world initially planned.

The trick, I assume, will be getting to that level in-game will be very difficult.

Alright 1337, seems you know what you're talking about :P

On another note, I guess Chris should update the FAQ. :D

Frankly, we're supposed to function by feeding on your misery. So I'll let you be the judge of that one.

lets get back on topic.
we were discussing important stuff like severing arms and such^^

i was thinking that since robotics aren't part of your body, does that mean you can't get your skills higher (i mean a robotic arm wouldn't get stronger the more you use it)?
Now I guess you could go buy a stronger arm, but that would still be a let down by me...

And since bandits and such would have to buy new limbs too, where will they go? A hidden bandit only town maybe? something like Tortuga

I think if you're stupid enough to get your arm cut off, you'll have to deal with the consequences.

1. Arm is severed. You're bleeding badly, aaagh!?

2. You stop the bleeding yourself, or one of your medics do, or you pay a doctor to do it.

3. After the bleeding is stopped, you can pay a doctor to fine-tune the stump, if you're gonna attach a robot arm you need a small bone stump to attach the arm to. It is highly unlikely that the arm was severed in such a way that a robotic arm could practically be applied immediately!

4. You don't plan on spending the rest of your miserable life as a one-armed bandit. You head to the nearest robotics center and pay up out of your ass to get a robotic arm attached.

5. A few violent months later your real arm is really strong, but your robotic one is still crap. You decide to pay copious amounts to upgrade and modify your robotic arm for perfection.

My point is, before you get your arm severed you can train it through experience gain. After you lose it, you can only recover it with credits, and improve it with even more credits. A really rich person might even want to choose to replace one of his arms with a robot arm just to increase in power faster?

If you really wanted to incorporate experience into a robotic arm, you could argue that it takes time for your nerve synapses to synchronize with the new and foreign limb. This would definitely be the case in a real life scenario.

I say we either deal without an arm. Oh noes, this character only has 1 arm, he's restricted to katanas.....So?

Or if you really must have robotic arms then have their stats set in stone.
Better quality arms have higher stats. But the MAX the robot arms can get to MUST be less than the normal arm. That way you don't have people trading out for the terminator.

As for the price of such limbs. I think an AVERAGE robotic limb should be anyone from 700,000-1,000,000
or even 2-3 million.
With a bigger map, and multiple squads on trading detail, even this would be low. Going to 20 towns will net you a million. There are planned to be way more than 20 towns.
I feel you should have to work for the robotic arm if you are to get it.

Granted if you choose to go without replacing a severed arm your strength would be capped at something lower than someone with 2 arms.
You couldn't really go without a leg though. <,<

Cutthroat prices for robotic arms are understandable, but what are the prospects of basic prosthetic replacements. Hook hands and springy prosthetic legs anyone?

/indicating the need for DF crutch walking skill. Or in this case, hook hands and wooden leg mastery.

Hi all !

What about Black Market limbs from a Underground Black Market ? A five finger discount maybe ? Done some favors for a crime lord of late, maybe it's tiime to cash in? :D
Surely we must accomodate for the not so chivalrous amongst us !

How about some moderate to rough negotiations with the local witch doctor to maybe have the surgery at a lower price....... We know where his family lives after all.

My henchmen are pretty loyal, maybe one of them would like to share their good fortune with the boss, without their illustrious leader they don't get fed after all !

Or if I'm working for the military, maybe they have the ability to rebuild me ?
