Let me first off say, I love this game and have no regrets buying it. I can say you guys did a great job making this, and god damn my team looks ninja as hell! Hopefully in the future if you guys make a game almost like this, you have my support on buying and trying the game and like freaking yeah. >:D *Haha*
But here some few things I need help with and hopefully, you guys won't be like "omg heres a noob, lets all call him and noob and hopefully he'll quit". I know you all had some issues at first playing this game. And I alone is still adjusting to the gameplay.
STATS/INFO
So basically and already again, sorry if I'm a noob. But when I play my Attack/Defence Skill are always in the negative range? Like heres my player Info (Not Trying to Show Off Here, I'm probably the worst player at this)
[PlayerName]
Emcumbrance: Heavy (60%) *Wearing Heavy Armor*
CombatMode: Defensive
Goal: Aimless
Skill: I gots none
Attack Skill: -2 (-13)
Defense Skill: 1 (-13)
Strength: 15 (x9%)
Health KO Limit: -26
Toughness Bonus: x1
Etc. Etc. Etc.
My Party is almost the same as this.
NEED HELP, I'm tired of dying..
DYING DUE TO SMALL ENEMY PARTY
This part really kicks me in the balls, when I have like 6 guys (including me) in my party and we're like vs 7 cannibal. We always end up getting our ass kicked (Yes I trained my guys in athletics, melee attacks, etc.) I know its a good thing to get our ass kicked cause it raises our toughness but my main character is already at Toughness 22. Like how many times so I have to lose? I think its because of my stats but yeah.
Does training in strength work?
Thats all I guess, please help me/

wearing heavy armour or weapons and backpacks and weapon types will affect your stats.
so thats normal.
As for getting your tush handed to you starting out.
thats supposed to happen.
you need strategy to learn to live in the world of Kenshi.
for newbies to the game it can be rather harsh and unforgiving to you and your first party.
First thing to do is don't build a base right off, that invites trouble
stay around towns for protection until you train up and get enough people to live in the open world.
but even then, expect things to go wrong. even a large group with stats in to 20's can still be defeated by dust bandits and cannibals.
Learn when to fight, and when to run away.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?

Then Men would become unmanageable

Thanks, but a true Samurai never runs away from a fight ! xD I'll start a new game and follow your advice.
From personal experience, I have always started with either the Freedom Seeker (party of 7 at start) or the Wanderer (loner with rock bottom stats).
Either way, there is always one guy that I will designate to be "Mr. Skins", a.k.a. massive Strength + Huge weapons (You can choose to develop your character(s) any way you'd like).
At the start, definitely hang around the NPC towns or follow a caravan through the world.
Loot as many unconscious bodies as you can and sell the goods to NPC shopkeepers in exchange for better and/or different armor and weapons.
NOTE: The Value of an item is how much it costs to BUY it, whereas the Trade Value is how much you receive to SELL it.
Keep an eye out for any special NPCs in the world that have a Bounty on their head (you will see this in the info. box in the lower-left whenever you select an NPC).
Bring Bounties back to either Police, Holy Paladins, or Samurai Lords in exchange for cats. (the currency in the Kenshi-verse).
If you ever want to know how to train your char(s), just open up the [C]haracter sheet and hover over the Attributes and/or Skills you're interested in training.
And Welcome to Kenshi!

Sounds like your biggest problem is indeed the skills. In real life and so in Kenshi, wearing heavy armor in battle is extreamly clumsy and can get you killed if you are not trained hard to use heavy armor. Meaning that heavy armor will have negative affect to your skills (attack and defense) You can't win a fight against Dust Bandit (skills 10+) If your skills are around 10 and wear heavy armor that reduces your skills with 13 points adding overall skills to -3.
My advice is to use lighter armor until you have attack and defense skills over 20 or so. And also decent strength is good with heavy armor. Then you are able to wear pretty much every armor without completely ruining your skills.

Also, since the last updates, going with light to no armor levels up toughness faster.
this gives me more reasons to run around the desert naked.(besides the athletics boost and being able to run faster)

Thank you all for responding me, your all much of a big help and should have more people like you around, I am grateful to know there are some people around here to help a newbie like me out
D Thanks
Also another help is the guys you want to have the heavy armor. Have them carry the knocked out guys or the guys that can not keep up. If you need to take some heavy stuff into town make them carry it. They will be slower but in time they will get stronger and there for be able to handle the heavy armor better. Also if you have not created a base when you do if you do build a training area with training dummies and if you want I have found it does your men better to train against guys that fight back. So build a training arena put prison cells in it fill them with any guys that live after attacking you. Then as you hurt them they will get stronger but so will ur men. An do not heal your men until they are knocked out. This will also boost there toughness to fight while they are hurt. I usualy put 4 to 5 guys with my medic in the arena keep every one but one guy as non combat and blocking. Until the one agressor is knocked out. An after I heal him I do not even send them to the bed until there lvls are up to were I want. As soon as he has healed just enough not to be knocked out again I put him back to work. In other words do not make it easy on ur men. Can even put dummies in the arena so those that are not fighting can train on them. An as the prisoners lvl up you can put better armor and weapons on them to make them more of a challenge to your men.

If your men carries backpack, which reduces your attack skills, place the backpack into your inventory (even if it has items in it aleady), this will take away any negatives that will reduce your attack skills caused by the backpack.
As for your men and their roles in general, you should try to have variations. Ex: Have 1 or 2 or even 3 strong men in your squad wear heavy armors and set their duties to Taunting (and if you want, add Blocking only to maximize their survivability). What Taunting will do is draw the attention of the attackers (when it works)...a tank basically. This way, your other men (who should be geared toward maximizing their dps) can focus on taking out the attackers while they are busy dealing with your tanks. Also, if you can spare a guy, set his duty to full time medic.

What I always find funny though is just how wrong that really happens to be. The armor's in game which are considered heavy are not extremely clumsy. Full Harness which most call "Full Plate" is actually extremely comfortable and easy to move in, you can actually run a full sprint in it and I know because I've wore some while doing SCA events. It does limit basic movements such as bending and twisting by the waste making it harder to use such moves which is why you're taught to pivot on your feet and hips to use over head strikes. This part is correct on training. To be honest, A full Hauberk of Maile is more restricting as all the weight is on your shoulders taking a toll on your back instead of being evenly distributed across your body, and this is reflected in game with its -1 stats.Santaissick wrote:Sounds like your biggest problem is indeed the skills. Overall, Chris is doing a good job of modeling the armor's on their true pros and cons.
Now, the main reason in game why the helmets reduce your skills are due to limited visual and hearing. A closed helm generally affords you a very limited arc of view to your front and zero peripheral vision. It also sounds like you're talking into a coffee can making it hard to hear anything around you considering most helmets only applied a few small holes to allow you to hear if any at all.
As for the "Samurai" armor depicted in game, it really doesn't have as much in common with the main styles of armor that were used. O-yoroi, Do-maru, Haramaki, Haraate, or the Mogami-do/Maru-do gusoku seem to be the style it is modeled after, and more or less its own style. Mainly due to the fact that all Japanese armor's protected the midsection as it was considered a major weakpoint. The helmet does highly resemble a suji-bachi kabuto with a shomen attached. Creative on using a Nihon style without actually modeling it after an actual armor type.
This.. the first thing I thought of when I saw your skills... Look at the equipment you are equiping, because it does show you the skill effects.Capt Voxen wrote:If your men carries backpack, which reduces your attack skills, place the backpack into your inventory (even if it has items in it aleady), this will take away any negatives that will reduce your attack skills caused by the backpack.

"combat skill x" Is marked on the item in question. For example, I am guessing you are wearing large backpacks, which reduces your skill by 10, as it shows in the text. A straw hat increases it by 1, etc. Keep an eye on those! Always remove backpacks in a fight!
Another thing you can do, follow the guards, loot the bandits they kill, sell the stuff, buy a big bag to hold more stuff and train strenght in same time, then recruit and send your fastest to recruit in every city once you have enough money, then keep your troup together (after making them meet each other in the same town) and fight bandits with the guards till you are good enough to wipe bandits on your own then you can make a base (if you want) or other things, of course it takes time but you need some preparation in a world where you can't do anything alone!
