Bombs

I noticed that there was a "Turrets" skill in the skill box, so I thought "Guns" which made me think "Gunpowder" and that led to bombs. Mining was an idea for the game, so mine up some Saltpeter, Sulfur, and make some Charcoal, and some random variables, and you could be walking away with a couple grenades, a mine, a bomb that wouldn't pass safety test, or missing fingers!

When it says "Turrets" It's referring to crossbow/ballista and harpoon turrets. There could probably be mechanical weapons, like a repeating or self-loading crossbow or some sort, but I don't think early gunpowder weapons or canons are going to come into play.

Oh...well that makes more sense considering that swords and other melee weapons are the only weapons at the time.

If this is going to be pseudo-japanese themed though, they had teppo muskets from the portuguese during the sengoku-jidai. And that wasn't even the high point of the samurai idea, that came later. They were able to produce their own versions.

A very (very) basic form of musket could work in the game. Very slow reloading on the order of 30-60 seconds with terrible accuracy. Could work in-game as either a support weapon or as a defensive, first shot weapon that changes right into your katana secondary after the first shot.

If you know anything about firing muskets you would notice that the environment is probably not for muskets, especially such early ones, they would probably not work in such conditions.

Also, if we are going to have fully robotic limbs, well......

Archery is going to be the ranged weaponry, I'm fairly sure Chris doesn't want muskets as they are so deadly. Most men trained with a musket can get a accurate shot and load it in 10-15 seconds, making them deadly in the right hands.

even for those real early ones? more like hand cannons. and they were not accurate at all. accuracy notably improved after rifling was invented.

still, i dont want firearms at all. the idea of the midieval weaponry (albeit it is not from western design) just seems better to me. personal preference though.

Hand Cannons aren't Muskets per say, but yes, I see where you're coming from, those were insanely hard to use but made so much smoke and noise you usually scared the enemy away so you didn't have to stab them after they covered the last 10 yards inside your effective range, and those took around 20 seconds to load.

Still.

Bows only. And maybe throwing knives.

What I would give to have an army of you if I were a general back then. That's awesome reloading speed. At least double most reloading speeds. Its almost as if we are playing a Total War game here with speeds like that. (basically a 10 second reload is bloody insanely fast).

Very well trained soldiers could, if they worked well and near the beginning of the battle, get off 3 shots per minute. As the battle went on and fatigue, fear and a build-up of powder residue occurred then the shot rate would decrease.

Anyway, if we are talking full realism there is no way any of this would happen. Don't pull the realism card on me with muskets when we have a bunch of guys running around deserts with katana and talk of robotics.

We could just say "Kenshi: Samurai Jack The Game"

Samurai Jack had guns.
I personally just hate the concept of mixing swords and such with guns/gunpowder weapons. Rubs me the wrong way, I also don't like playing games with muskets or anything short of breech loading for rifles.

Barooney, you mixed up the quotes there. I think you didn't delete enough stuff and so its got Lorenzo saying my stuff. No biggie.

Also, I'm not for or against guns. They probably wouldn't fit very well but I threw it in to the mix since, as I said in my other post, if its going to be pseudo japanese themed then they also had that technology. (same as robots and big walking gundams...can't wait until I can have a gundam to cut down the desert walking time).

Still, you guys are probably right. It would shift the focus of the game away from the melee and sword play aspect which is where it really shines so far.

On the battlefield it's a whole different ball game. Most well trained Musket units could fire 4 shots a minute but be lucky to hit anything because they just point and shoot.
