So obviously this number keeps changing. Is there going to be a static number at some point where they stop changing it? It's frustrating when I hire 50, then they change the max to 30 :/.

check the mods forum for info on the bigger squads mod.
But the limit that they impose is to keep the game running smoothly.
I have one game with nearly 150 squad members and it really grids the game to a halt.
The current limit of 30 seems to be the functional limit to keep the game running smoothly.
But if you don't mind some extra wait times and minor errors check out the bigger squads mod.

I know why they have the hard limit, but what I'm curious about is, what the actual hard limit is going to be. I have a decently beefy computer where I was running 50 or more and it was ok. I have even messed with the npc multiplier slider and whatnot. I would just like it if they could keep it consistant, cause now my imported game has 48/30 :/. I hate to shave peeps off my squad and I like the idea of having 50. The game that I did have 50 happened to glitch and I deleted it causing me to use a slightly older save resulting in the 48. I would love it if they could add a slider to adjust the total max so that while we are playtesting the alpha builds we could mess around with whatever number, 1-255 lets say, we wanted. I hate hard limits when it comes to things like this.

Yeah especially when you reset character locations on a load.

Like I said check out the modding forum.
The bigger squads mod is easy and has no effect other then allowing more characters and squads.

Don't even need to check the mod forum. It only takes a couple seconds to change it yourself.

Go to the forgotten construction set in the Kenshi folder. Click the create new mod button, name it whatever, and make sure it is ticked along with gamebase, then click done.

Now you're in the modding screen. Just click global game settings, scroll down to faction size, and make it whatever you want. Afterwards, save the mod, go to your kenshi folder, and in your mods.cfg file, edit it in notepad or something and type *yourmodname*.mod (Leave out the stars.)

Bang, you just modded Kenshi. The forgotten construction set tool is super easy to use. I know almost zero things about computers and modding, and I can handle it. Within the tool you can create your own starts, give characters certain equipment, and loads of other things. It is all written out for you, no codes or programming.
