Does anyone know if your character will automatically retrieve food from food storage once they run out on their person or do we have to micromanage them to get get more?

not sure but it would be nice if there was a buildable dinner table that you could store food in and hungry workers would go to when they needed to.

Yeah I hope they do go get more food on their own. I really don't want to micromanage 34 people's food needs. I'll sooner and begrudgingly kill a bunch of my people off so I don't have to manage the food for the all.

Wow that's.. a really good idea actually! I like the idea of a table that you can fill with food (some of placed ontop) where they go to sit and east a lot.

Yeah, definitely a better idea than mine. I was thinking of a fridge, where you store food, and people get what they want. But actually a dinner table with chairs is much better, so you can plan a restaurant in the desert.

a fridge would have been a great idea if food would degrade. That way it would have been kept longer.

But even so it might be a good idea for variety and maybe bigger storage. Not to mention you could lock it!

If it hasn't been done yet someone should add this idea to feature requests. im about to go to work so I cant. Also like the idea. I killed off 13 of my people I imported because its was too much not having the infrastructure to manage them. they were all my weak guys so I didn't care too much. ill just get ten more of the other races :D

It was added to the feature requests, but I was thinking that there is an issue with this.
You can't control how much food they will take.
should they take as much as they can, or just enough to survive?
What if you need to ration the food but someone who is hungry comes in and takes everything that is left?

Lots to figure out with this one.

Currently I'm using a storage chest and doling out food to everyone once a day.
Works pretty fast to have one person loot the chest then just click through each character and hand out the food that they need.

Still if they could give us options to control rationing food, take only what you need, and stock up for working farther from the dinner table, then It would be cool.

I give my guys one piece of food to carry a day. I wouldn't want them encumbered with any more, or losing volume to carry ore! I think it's reasonable to have them go get food when they're hungry, and grab just one piece. But maybe there could be a "servings" option to allow the players some fine-tuning on that, depending what they're feeding their people.

There also could be a dedicated server /provisioner who distributes food where it's needed - similar to the medic job.
