Personally I think not.

As a starting item it's a bit devastating when you have a 48 person imported squad, all on the verge of starving to death, and you finally manage to make some farming fields and a house with a stove only to find out that for some reason it needs power..

It really doesn't make much sense anyway, all you'd really need is a fire inside(the model even looks like it works like that) and that would heat up the plates ontop.

Even right now I can ignote my stove at home without using electricity and it's a fairly modern stove.

Since it doesn't require fuel, I guess that means we're to assume it's electrical. Even though the design looks to be a wood burning stove.

TBH, I think I prefer power as opposed to yet another resource to manage.

maybe that would work.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

I guess it depends on your viewpoint. From a realistic standpoint, power doesn't make sense. You'd use wood, or some other kind of "fuel". But from a gameplay standpoint, power makes more sense. Do you really want to have to go gather wood to use the stove instead of power? But I have noticed a problem with technology requirements and so forth. Which I posted about in another thread, so I won't repeat myself.

Well regardless of the aesthetics and technicalities of the stove, you have to focus on the game-play balance of it. In your case, it's not balanced for 48 new characters without an agricultural industry to back it up.

I haven't got around to researching one yet due to other crashes, let alone building one. The thought that it requires a power source actually scares me though. Why? Because it means I have to commit to other research before I can rush a stove. I have too much on my plate (lol puns) to deal with spending even more time and money on securing food for my crew.

I merely have eight people in my play through and they're having starvation problems. I can't hunt, because animals are too powerful. I can't farm, because greenfruit sucks. I can only just buy enough meatwraps from trading in loot.

Maybe having a low-tier stove available (that doesn't use any resource) for research in the early game is the best answer. Opinions?

For me Meat and campfires are the early stove. But I modded meat on the dogs and beak things, so I have a reason and reward for fighting them. (and cause I wanted to taste beak thing for ages now)

I don't mind the stoves being powered but I think a fuel powered camp stove would be a nice middle ground. You would have to keep getting fuel to fill it. All the other parts are in the game currently so it would be an easy addition.

I don't like the stoves having no power or fuel requirements, and I would not like to have to gather wood for them.

Indeed, it makes sense for a high tier stove, as there is electricity. And, i agree for the need of a lower tier stove to maintain early food-needs, beyond the meat from a campfire, which doesn´t need any fuel right now, btw. But, i think it should.

Scavenging wood/-scraps from trees or out of the environment would make it more survival-ish.
