I just had to make this topic, Why does everyone have to be Right handed in the game, I mean when I grew up I used both my arms equally as much (later lost this abillity as there was no need for me beside in badminton to quickly switch hand with the racket) Or those unfortune to be left handed!? (It's a sin to be left handed mwhahaha!)
We all know serval times we manage to break the right arm of the foe they start to limp/run away from battle as they no longer can fight because they happened just to be the general wannabe right hand person.
And then the broken leg? They sure -dont- move outside combat, but they can still fight and dance around like nothing happened, I must admit Im impressed of that, as I have hard time imagine I would even manage to stand up.
If you against all odds manage to still stand up, then wouldn't you atleast be kind enough to stop dance around on that broken leg, it hurts to watch that trashed leg, dance around!

For the leg thing, you probably noticed when a arm status goes under 0 that physX takes control of it and just let it float there making it useless and taking it out of the character animations, simulating (with success imo) the broken limb.
But that can't happen with the legs since even if it goes under 0 the char has to stand on something and so the physX can't take care of it in the same way, a solution is to add more combat animations (with left or right leg broken), which i think is planned, but until it's done the combat stance, even with broken legs still stays the same, out of combat tho you can see the right limping animation. I'm not sure about when the 2 legs are broken though. Obviously the char should be immobilized but I don't think I've seen it yet.

I good sir, am a left-handed man.
I believe that this is the reason for the right-handed sword combat.

Notice: this is a topic about sword position/maintenance. If you don't care about maintaining your sword then please read the paragraphs listed under Cutting-edge orientation and Grip orientation. (Which talks about sword position and aggressiveness).
My guess is that because the position of the sword scabbard is on the left (for quick access, meaning they are alert) they of course use their right-hand. They have an alert stance because they are in a very unwelcoming environment.

Maybe left and right arm skills, and a button to control which arm is being used/trainned. a modifier to weapon skills and not a relpacement.

I have to modify the animations to work left-handed only. I intend to do it later so you can fight left-handed when your right arm is disabled. Also later when both legs are disabled you will have to crawl about on the floor.

That sounds pretty kickass, I take it being in a crippled state would incurr a penalty to attack and defence? I mean, you can't really fight at anywhere near full effectiveness when downed. This would certainly make leg armor a very important thing to have!Chris_The_Great wrote:I have to modify the animations to work left-handed only. Because I have not made enough combat animations yet. There will be more attacks, and more wound impact animations.
aha, so if the community was to make some new animations for the right side they could potentially be implemented yes? (as to not derail this thread would you mind having a look in my thread in the mod forums)
I'm bumping this thread. Is this still planned? It really ought to be. Because Left Handed people deserve respect.
And it only today struck me how ridiculous it was that you have an arm that can still be 100% functional and not be used once your right arm went down.
As for animations? Can't you just flip them along a medial axis? That makes so much sense.
Bruh. I wish I could bump this thread to the moon and back.
Cheers.

Personally I'd love to see it included, but I think the reason it's not already in comes down to the work the work required to animate sequences based on the introduction of not one, but two more possible combat configurations. With the addition of left as primary attack, you would have situations involving fights between right vs. right, left vs. left, right vs. left. This creates a need to animate these possible configurations and having a way for each character to recognize the left/right stance of their opponent, and for this to work well in large combat situations where you may be attacking or defending against multiple opponents.
There's a similar thread rolling about this here, although more stance based discussion: http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/viewtop ... =10&t=8718
What would be great is to have preset stances, perhaps some that require learning. This would give the game a direct reference to something the characters would work with and animate themselves accordingly, while taking into account the many possible varations of left/right weapon use and stance.

I don't think that's accurate. Currently, even with a primarily right handed system, strikes aimed from the right are blocked with a side block from the right. Which already doesn't make any sense because if you're facing your opponent and he hits from his right, it's going to hit your left. It's a quirk, I don't care much about it.Un1ver5al wrote:Personally I'd love to see it included, but I think the reason it's not already in comes down to the work the work required to animate sequences based on the introduction of not one, but two more possible combat configurations. As for the animations, just fucking flip them from the midline of the body! Exactly the same as the right swing just flipped the middle of the body. But giving up on combat when your right arm breaks is gonna drive me totally insane. When I had a cast on, I didn't say, "Oh well, I guess I better give up on fapping."
You don't need "left to right" combinations because the game already has defined counters set. All attacks from above are blocked by holding your sword horizontally. All attack from the sides are blocked by holding your sword vertically.
Forget the sword stances. If you want, make it a -20 penalty to attack/defence for fighting with your non dominant hand.
I don't think there's any such reason for such a stupid mechanic. If I had broken legs and broken arms then I'd bite me a damn bandit.
