Worst start ever?

The other day i decided to lay my hands on a new game, just to check skeleton appearance, and stuff. Picked up a "Guy with a dog" scenario, tuned some sliders in a constructor, hit start button, and after few seconds of loading... found myself in a center of a Bad Teeth with both gates shut. A minute after some citizen yelled "Robo... ROBOTS!" everything was over and my skeleton sat in a cage with a heavy leg trauma :) Here's few conclusions i took out of it:

- Guy with a dog is probably the most easy start if combined with a skel character, since none of them require food (i hope animal hunger is not the thing)

- Humanoids should never start -in- any holy city, should be nearby at least.

- (just related) First aid kits and repair kits looks kind of swapped. Former looks more like the latter, or vice versa.

Yeah, I've had similar experiences.

As stated in other threads, the current start positions are only temporary due to the small section of the map currently available.

Personally, I think the Holy Nation are a bit overzealous about...well, basically, anyone that isn't a male Greenlander; especially women. I mean...women are forbidden...how do they reproduce..? I think they should just kick you out of town rather than beat you down and throw you in prison only to do it again right after they let you out. A rather nonsensical loop IMO.

Yeah, maybe they imprison Shek, Skeles and Hives as strange foreigners but the woman thing is a bit ridiculous.

It's also inconsistent with the populations in the Holy Nation cities. If my character is a woman/Shek/Skele/Hive/Scorchlander, I immediately get beat down. Yet, when you go to the bars, they are all over the place. Rather silly to recruit someone in a town and then have to run them out before they get a beat down for being where they already were. How did they get there in the first place?

I'm sure this will all be fleshed out when more of the map is released.

Until then, 'reset squad positions' to the rescue!

I actually find their hatred for Skels and Hive justified to a degree. HN represents a stiff, religiously zealous nation with restricted traditions mixed with monarchy and militarism. With total unacceptance to anyhing alien. I also found the nice trend that they beat Bots to death on sight, but with Sheks they first warn them to gtfo, and only then beat them if they're disobedient. I think it's due to Sheks being closer to humans then former two. Also, they don't hate women and they're not forbidden. They only preach them of extreme modesty and social restrictions. Also i recently recruited a scorchlander, and now he's assigned for trading missions to HN towns. No hatred met, and guard even told him "bless and devotion, brothers" once, although that might've been adressed more to a bull.
My squad also has many women and they've never been beat down. Are your sisters dressed properly?

Strange. All of my women characters get attacked if they get too close to HN guards. Perhaps my attire was not up to par, though I typically dress all of my chars in Ninja/Mongrel gear. I've definitely had Scorchlander characters get attacked as well; though, now that I think about it, pretty sure they were women. On my large squad playthrough, I just designated a Greenlander male as my town runner because I was tired of the hassle. They also go out of their way to attack my Shek and Hive characters and will attempt to raid my base if they patrol close enough to see them. Perhaps there's something screwy with my save file.

I'll have to investigate further.

Thanks for the info!

Just keep those files backed-up! I've had'nt had a chance to recruit any non-human allies to my party yet, so all but one (the topic starter) observation are made on npcs, specifically, on sheks chilling in the bars. My women dress-code is rather strict: high boots, samurai clothpants, short-sleeved leather shirts, when brother first approached me with a lecture i even discontinued using leather vest on my girls :)

Try being a Skeleton. I have an all skeleton game and you even get attacked by the townspeople in HN towns. Everyone starts yelling about robots and the whole place goes bat crap crazy.

Today made the mistake of entering a town I didn't realize was HN until it was too late. As the fight raged on with the paladins, the shop keepers grabbed up fallen weapons and joined in.

This kind of makes me believe that it would be most beneficial to the player to start in a location that hosts the Race that you choose as the center of attention in your load-up - Unless you happen to choose a harder/stranger setting in which you may find yourself in combat right after start.

But for most:
  • -Sheks start with Shek society
-Skeletons 'turn on' in an old abandoned ship, or underground with other skeletons
-Hive members are in a Hive
-Humans start in Holy Nation - Or others as they are added.

Worst start.

dunno, my starts are usually pretty bland but i guess maybe the holy sword start. i didn't get far before i was knocked out by some bandits, an then as soon as i'd recovered dogs attacked. i had no weapon because the bandits took the sword i started with.

Horrible indeed! Although from bandits on the field you might at least try to escape :)
