How to add and save a gate guard node?

Dear people,

I tried to do this again and again because I would like to create some guards to watch the gate of a faction I created. But it seems they cannot recognize the nodes. Is there somebody who could exlain in simple words how to ad and save a guard node. Maybe I do something wrong doing the process.
