Material Female

I am working on some custom armor, and have run into a problem that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. When making the female variant of the chest piece, I am unable to get the "female material" slot in FCS to work. It still seems to point to the male textures for some strange reason. I figured that I needed to make a clone material, that points to the female textures, then pointed the "female material" to said material, to no avail.
